MAX RUDBERG SmoothStripes was the first theme I ever made (back in 10.1 I believe), and I made it for my own use because I wanted to get rid of the stripes in OS X. At that time the themes I knew of were Sosumi and Unlined Aqua. While Unlined Aqua also removed the stripes, I wanted a brighter theme. I then decided to put it on the web and that's how my theme making started. I learned much later that Kevin Knopp who made Sosumi had made a theme called Simple Aqua before me which accomplished the same thing. Had I known about this I would of course just used Kevin's theme because it was so similar. But he first told me about SimpleAqua and that he did not like that I made a theme based on the same simple idea of removing stripes until long after I had released the first version. And at that point SmoothStripes had already evolved beyond just removing stripes to refining Aqua so I did not want to discontinue it. Kevin's SimpleAqua is also available for 10.3, but it's hard to come by. I know he have posted a link in the Macnn forums though. But claiming that Kevin's theme look "just like" SmoothStripes 4 is plain wrong. Kevin's theme only ever removed the stripes while my theme adds many improved Aqua elements. I'm not saying SmoothStripes is original, nor is Aqua Extreme. But I'm a bit offended that you say that most of my themes are copies. None of my themes are copies. Some are evolved Apple designs, one is an authorized port of a k-scheme and three are ports of GUIs from other OS's. Aluminum Alloy, EYLO, Milk and Rhapsodized are all original designs. So I do not understand your comment. I believe I have plenty of originality. (Version 4.0) |
