EDITOR NOTES
This is a release for Snow Leopard (Mac OS X 10.6). For links to versions for earlier operating systems, see Related Links below.
DESCRIPTION
Smart Scroll makes scrolling smoother, faster and more comfortable:

  • Super Scroll offers smooth and easy iPhone-like scrolling. And it lets you reverse scrolling on the Mac to match your iPhone. Try it!
  • Hover Scroll makes scrolling as easy as pointing to the top or bottom edge of a window.
  • Grab Scroll gives you a Hand tool to easily move (and "throw"!) any window's contents.

Other features include Universal Scroll Keys, trackpad and scroll wheel accelerator, and more.

WHAT'S NEW
Version 3.3:
  • Fix for another problem causing the "Could not start" message (Thanks, Alan Bergstein, Bob Embry, Phil Hubbard!)
  • Many internal changes to solve settings problems and Smart Scroll stopping in Safari.
  • No longer uses Application Enhancer (on 10.5 and 10.4, partly replaced by APE Lite).
  • Various other fixes and improvements.

  • For Mac OS X 10.3.9, please use Smart Scroll 2.8.5 for Panther.
REQUIREMENTS
Mac OS X 10.4.11 or later.

DANA SUTTON  Sorry to have that "typical American entitled attitude" but I'm afraid I do. Apple's motto, after all is "it just works" , so let's dispense with the anti-Americanism and call it a "typical Mac-owner entitled attitude." Truth is, although the "won't start" bug seems to be settled, in Snow Leopard Smart Scroll is still very erratic. It mysteriously works with some programs some of the time but not with all of them all the time. Sometimes it refuses to work with this program, now with that one, in what seems like an entirely unpredictable way. Sometimes it works for a while with a given program and then mysteriously stops working. It’s entirely unreliable. This just isn’t right, I don’t see why we have to live with this situation. Let’s hope the developer can finally solve his problems.

KILLER KLOWN KAR  Thanks for this update Marc. I always know after Apple breaks your software you'll get the issues fixed in a reasonable amount of time. And don't let the people complaining here get to you, it's just their typical entitled American attitude.

PROGRAMHAPPY  Screw you, KILLER KLOWN KAR. When we pay for a program, we have the right to request fixes.

BILLY THE BIKER  It looks like Apple just incorporated iPhone scrolling into the new Magic Mouse.

PROGRAMHAPPY  Not OK. Fix it already, please. This is a paid program. It keeps turning itself off and displaying the "Could not start" nonsense.

DANA SUTTON  I'm having the "could not start" problem too. I've been CONSTANTLY plagued by it since upgrading to Snow Leopard. I think there's a bug and I don't the think the developer has quite solved the problem (if you read this, Mr. Developer, I'll be happy to work with out on this problem by giving you whatever info you need about my Mac's configuration and the other stuff I'm running).

PROGRAMHAPPY  New problem: now it deactivates upon restart. I get the "Could not start" error. I really don't want to have to deal with this problem constantly.

PROGRAMHAPPY  UPDATE: Now it's turning itself off (silently crashing) out-of-the-blue, while I am surfing in Safari.

These problems have been going on with the last two versions, and it has rendered this paid program virtually unusable for me.

DANA SUTTON  Sorry, Mcmillen, but I wrote that only after downloading and using the latest version. Now it occasionally works on some apps only for a while after a reboot, and then craps out again.
