DESCRIPTION
Caboodle... Everyone comes across information that they want to refer to later. Maybe gifts you've received or sent, product serial numbers, recipes, directions to someone's house, a photo of your pet, or anything else. Caboodle is a tool to help store and organize such varied bits of information.
You can arrange the items in an outline-like hierarchy, and include both structured fields and free-form text and pictures in each entry, along with web links, lists, tables, PDFs, and any other kind of file as attachments.
When you create a new entry within an existing one, the custom fields are inherited, allowing quickly creating content in an organized fashion. But you can also add or remove custom fields independently for each entry.
Entries can be encrypted to hide your most sensitive information. They can also be searched, and the Services menu is supported to quickly add or output an entry. Caboodle also supports import and export in several formats.
WHAT'S NEW
Version 1.3.1:
- Improved the handling of imports to use multi-threading only when appropriate.
- Added exception handling and an alert when saving the data, in case something goes wrong, e.g. too much data being saved.
- Prices increased slightly.
Version 1.3:
- Added an optional Save PDF to Caboodle item in the printing workflows (i.e. the menu in the PDF button in print panels), making it really easy to save any document to a new entry just by (effectively) printing it to Caboodle.
- Added a menu command to the Caboodle menu to Install PDF Workflow..., so you can install it later if desired.
- Added a PDF... option to the Import sub-menu. PDFs are imported as attachments in new entries.
- The folder hierarchy is now preserved when importing; folders are imported as entries with a folder icon and no text content.
- Added Web Archive and HTML options to the Export sub-menu. The Web Archive format is nice and tidy, and can be displayed in any modern web browser. The HTML export outputs the entries as folders of HTML files and images.
- Improved the handling of exports to use multi-threading only when appropriate.
- Added General Preferences to include or exclude the creation and modification dates, Subject, and/or custom fields when printing and exporting. They are all included by default.
- Changed the format of the printed/exported dates to be the same as displayed in the window, and fixed a bug where it was outputting the creation date instead of the modification one.
- Fixed a cosmetic bug where having an entry selected, doing a search and not selecting anything, then clearing the search would leave the selection without displaying the corresponding entry content.
- Fixed an issue that could prevent finding licenses in very rare circumstances.
- Updated the French and German localizations.
- Added Dutch localization.
REQUIREMENTS
Mac OS X 10.4 or later. Intel compatible.

MYSTERY TRAMP I've been a fan of Caboodle for ages. It's a great repository for notes, ideas, graphics. It has a clean interface and the sidebar makes it easy to keep files together based on subject matter. ... Very well done.

OGKN06 It is a lovely piece of software and very stable it has never crashed on me. One can find many uses because it is versatile in many ways especially exporting and importing stuff (even with via drag'n drop), it is indeed very powerful. I bought it from mupromo and for the price I thought it was a bargain and I was very happy the first few days it was like love at first sight. Simple yet intuitive GUI. Then I started to see dark clouds on my computers as the software slowed down. Even opening a simple file took literally ages. I couldn't believe it. I wrote to the developer asking for a refund, he told me that refunding policy is for those who buy the software directly from the shop. He admitted that the software slows down. He promised to solve the situation in future releases when he starts using SQLlite databases. After this discussion I had to buy another data organizing software. I literally have 20 times the information when compared to the ones I had in Caboodle, and the new software didn't slow down a bit. I feel that this a real deal breaker. So I still have the software I use it to organize my poems, at least text files doesn't slow down the software. MacOS 10.5.4. with 3GB Ram (Version 1.1.4)

SHISKBOB It would be nice to know the other data storage software you found that didn't slow down with added data. I have Caboodle but use both Yojimbo (good sync with MobileMe) and EagleFiler (hierarchical folders, and multiple very large database possibilities) predominately. (Version 1.2)

CREATIVEAEON Well, I have tried Circus Ponies Notebook, and for what I need for my particular project, Caboodle is the better solution. The layout, the simplicity -- these are the key features I require in this instance. I answer a lot of the same questions over and over. Many can be answered with a template response, but I like to customize them a bit for variety. Caboodle is a terrific tool for storing and organizing my responses by topic. And more than that, it lets me group similar stored responses, which I can quickly review when I need something a bit more personalized. I can add and search Keywords as well as Subjects. It's become an invaluable tool in my work, increasing my productivity and thereby lowering my stress level. It's simple. It's easy to use. And for the tasks I use it for, it's very efficient. The customer support is fabulous as well -- prompt, courteous, helpful. Rare features in software support today. I recommend Caboodle, and I'm happy to support them! (Version 1.1.2)

DRAGONMAGE150 Now I've searched, looked at, and downloaded specifically chosen organizing programs. Several. Right in the middle of trying them out one by one I knew when I got started I'd be using this one. This is just about the only program you'll ever need. Not too simple, not too "complicated." As it is perfect for storage, and quick notes at the same time. Be sure to keep it on your dock... and at least try it out. Is this a fake review? Not likely. (Version 1.1b1)

BLITHE_SPHERE Caboodle is a must-have program, especially for collecting tidbits of information. Previously, the only system I had in place for storing phone numbers, random quotes, brief ideas to think about later, names, places, books I wanted to read, book ideas I wanted o write, recipes, and so forth- was in text files... which, being as usual in a hurry, I then named with such obscure names as hhjj.txt or trty.txt. Finding anything was nearly impossible, and if not impossible- at the very least, time consuming. And then I found Caboodle. I had already been reading up on programs to download in anticipation of my new Mac purchase (I was a PC user), and Caboodle was the first one I knew I absolutely had to have. I have been a user ever since, and have found the program invaluable in saving me time and stress, and for helping me to organize my thoughts while on the puter- thus helping me be far more productive than ever before. I had a little trouble using the program at first, and David was absolutely incredible about getting back to me promptly, and making sure I came out knowing what I was doing. This is one program I cannot do without. (Version 1.0)

TMCRAE How do people live without this? It's fab. It's a great catch-all for to do lists, passwords, account #'s, snippets of info you don't know where else to put, notes, etc, etc. I use it at it's most basic level, kind of a glorified Stickies, but I know it can do more things. (Version 1.0)

AARONTATERTOT Lovin' Me Some Caboodle! If you are looking to get the most "bang-for-your-buck" when it comes to buying a PIM.... Caboodle is by far the best choice!!! Family-Pack under $15.00?!? I started using Caboodle during its development stages, when it was free... and loved it so much that I didn't spend a single moment considering if I were going to by the software. I haad to have it. Caboodle is easy to use, clean, and the author/programmer who created Caboodle and various other programs really knows how to take care of his clients! A personal thank-you email and inquirys as to how the purchase went, with the integration of new payment application. Customer service is outta this world. I'm looking forward to the various updates and versions that are to come from Dejal Systems. www.dejal.com I strongly reccomend this product.... stay organized for such a reasonable price! ANDREW HILL Caboodle is great, and David is an exceptionally responsive developer. After using Caboodle for a couple of weeks my Desktop is clean of the dozens of files that i kept on it and i'm reducing the number of various folders around my drive with notes, documents, and various snippets of web projects and code libraries (all this has been the equivalent of semi-organized piles). I'm starting to implement a nice To Do list using the GTD style with Caboodle, and am finding more uses for it every day. Really a winnner. I've only given some 4's as it's still a RC, and has a few minor quirks. Or i assume it does, David fixed the few things I had encountered in the last beta, so maybe it's perfect now. DUDEASINCOOL Caboodle is a terrific app. I was using Sideshow, but immediately switched to Caboodle once I started using it. You can create and store lists, docs, pics, links, whatever is lying around your desktop for when you need it. I use it for passwords and stuff like that, or for lists I need to refer to all the time. This is a keeper and its right on my desktop. PS. I needed some assistance regarding one of the developer's other apps, a blogging tool, and he couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. (Version 1.0b3)

- Now finally with standard "save-on-demand" (previously only "auto-save") - Seems to be getting more of the developer's attention over the recent months - Search is sub-par: a) only searches per item, not across all items b) data are not indexed by Spotlight - Only allows to open one datafile. So it isn't able to have one file with sensitive content on an encrypted disk image and another somewhere else without encryption I wish I could add each and every file as an icon into this. The Finder doesn't cut it, because it is clumsy to add text notes to files. Caboodle makes managing notes easy, but you can only add stuff like images, and they are displayed in full size, not as mini icons. I remember that DevonThink and DevonNote do that. But they seemed too complex for me that I really wanted to try them out. (Never mind that they are much expensive, too) Caboodle is nice in both respects. (Version 1.0b3)
