IAMDORIAN Although this may not be the fastest program out there, the Pantry feature makes this a professional application. That said, this feature could be expanded and made more friendly for those interested in preparedness. In these days of uncertainty and rapidly escalating food prices, food purchased in bulk, and stored, not only saves a LOT of money, but is there when you need it. Something to consider for those who do not think that the thin veneer of our modern civilization incorruptible. The nutrition information in this program is also well implemented. There are may reasons to support this developer. Speed and interface beauty are desirable Mac features, but it is a little less important than expanded functionality. I'll give this 5 stars (it deserves 4-4.5) to offset these dumb low ratings. Developer, keep up the good work. (Version 1.2.6)

WALT BASIL First off, I've used this program for many years, since it was offered as a low beta number, and have a lifetime license. The author is very helpful and responsive with email communication. You couldn't ask for more there. It is very stable. I never experience any crashes. It has many features included with it that others require you to purchase separately. Think Nutritional Information, planning menus for weeks out at a time. Creating shopping lists based on your upcoming menus. Features I don't use, but will weigh in on other peoples' decision. At the time of purchase, it was very promising, and still is, as long as you don't mind the interface. Many people do like it, and claim it sheds the "cutsey" goodness that is Aqua and eyecandy and all that. That's where it loses me now. The main window seems like nothing but a regular program's preference pane turned on its side. Check it out. Go to Mail, open preferences, click on Accounts. There's your A Cooks Book interface minus the toolbar along the top and the list along the left side. And of course it's right side up instead of on the side. I always put up with it because I was a lifetime licensee, and it is a solid program. Since Leopard, the annoying tabbing issue caused me to look at other options out there. I just finished up trying out many listed here and MacGourmet has stole my heart. I used it for about 5 minutes and I immediately fell in love with it. It is very Mac like, in that it is visually just like using Mail, iTunes, iCal iLife and iWork (all programs which I enjoy using). Is adding a toolbar eyecandy? I don't know. But it sure would be useful in A Cook's Book to enter a new recipe instead of having to choose it from the menu or keyboard shortcut. When I compose a new message in Mail, I don't use the keyboard shortcut to initiate it. So, farewell A Cook's Book for now. You have served me well in the past, and I will continue to look in on you time to time. But I have found something I like better right now, and you know what I am looking for should you ever want to bring in other users like me. (Version 1.2.1)

DONKEYOTAY I've been using this programme for about a year now and loved it until this version. Quite frankly, it's bloated & tediously slow. A real shame. (Version 0.9.8)

ANONYMOUS I've fixed the sluggishness of A Cook's Books. Two area's in particular are launch time and scroll speed when browsing recipes. (Version 0.9.11)

DONKEYOTAY I continued to use the programme after I posted the negative comment. However, the improvements are good & I now highly recommend it.

RON WEST Ive bought Yum, and all the other recipe applications for OSX. As a professional chef, I find this application to be far superior to the rest! The development of this application cannot be surpassed. The support by the developer is not surpassed either! Get it. Pay for it. Support the developer! Its great!

ANONYMOUS yep. no yum importing. the app says it'll do this, but it will not. (Version 0.9.9)

ANONYMOUS Just to be sure I just imported a file with 3 Yum! recipes. New users mistakenly try to import a recipe programs native format. A Cook's Books imports recipes that have been exported in text format. In this case, the user would export one or more recipes from Yum in text format, then import that file into A Cook's Books. http://www.3caam.com (Version 0.9.11)

TERRE SPENCER Even greater! Shopping list works perfectly on v0.8.8 on my system. Immediate response from the developer. (Quite a pleasant surprise for this long-time Quark userâ¦) Keep up the great work, Tony! (Version 8.8)

TERRE SPENCER Great program! I like the menu planning feature, although it crashes when I try to make a shopping list. The instant links from the menu bar to various online recipe sites are a very nice feature. FirstâEach recipe pane needs a field to enter the oven preheat temp in the uppermost part of the pane, not just entered as text into the instructions. Secondlyâit would be WONDERFUL if the ingredients would create real typographical fractions (i.e., ½ânot the big honking 1/2) by entering the decimal amount, (in this case .5). (Version 8.7)
