DESCRIPTION
Aion lets you keep track of current time in chosen time zones. The application consists of a NSStatusItem -- it's visible in the menu bar next to "menu extras" you may have installed in your system. Aion is not a menu extra though.
  • User can reorder installed time zones in the preferences window
  • Each time zone can be renamed to fit your needs
  • Aion can show precise date or short date
  • 12 h support
  • User can now modify the time zone's difference from GMT => AION now supports custom time zones. To have a custom time zone create a defaults one (doesn't matter which one) and click Customize button. You can change the time difference using the application's UI

Aion comes in two versions: the basic and the extended one.

  • The basic version is a simple application (available via the "Download Now" link on this page) that upon startup doesn't show itself in the dock. Instead it remains in the menu bar.
  • The extended version is a NSMenuExtra variation. NSMenuExtras are those icons in the right part of the menu bar that You can move around with Your mouse. When You move a NSMenuExtra out of the menu bar it "poofs" (or unload if You wish). The extended version needs a system hack to run. Read more about this in the Installing part of this file.
WHAT'S NEW
Version 1.7.2:
  • Fixed a possible crash on 10.4.11 with recent security update installed (also it did not work under 10.5 at all). Unfortunalelly MenuExtra version (aka "extended") may not work, even on 10.4.11.
REQUIREMENTS
Mac OS X 10.3 or later.

MACBRAINIAC  Hi, great little program.

I love how you can add your own custom names.

The ability to change the format is great too. I just have two little requests:

Allow the ability to show the time without the leading zero. That is, eg 8:24am, not 08:24am.

Also, have the option to show shortened forms of the day. Tue instead of Tuesday, like the Apple clock does.

Other than that, keep up the good work. I'm using the beta and it works smoothly without any spinning beach balls.

KRZYSPMAC  AION version 1.7 does not work with MacOS 10.5 aka Leopard at the moment. The new code I have been working on for the last (heh well, a year :D) is almost ready. There are some glitches which hold the release off. I expect AION version 1.8b1 (beta1) to be out early in the 2008 (the first week of 2008). There will be 3 betas (I hope), each getting closer to the functionality AION had in version 1.7. Sorry for the trouble.

KRZYSPMAC  The dmg file has been altered to include the dashboard widget, which should be there (but for some reason it wasn't :)

You can also get the only the widget yourself from:

KRZYSPMAC  I think it's on Apple's part.

Aion uses (in most cases) time zones from the system's libraries. And that library tells that Jerusalem is GMT+2h, while in fact now it should be GMT+3h (because of daylight saving time modification).

I've checked that with Apple's World Clock Dashboard widget. I live in Warsaw, it's GMT+2 so if I have 15:45 then Jerusalem should be 16:45 (checked with http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/city.html?n=110). But Apple's widget shows 15:45!

It seems MacOS thinks Jerusalem lies in GMT+2 zone.

I will be trying to enter all the known time zones into AION will all the different daylight savings information but that may take a while.

Until then you are on your own :)

VITALY  yes! one can customize the diplay of the time. i did not know at first and apologize for requesting this feature when it was already there..in fact there is a lot of versatlity in this version. still one thing: i am in new york and use aion to show time in jerusalem, israel. i know that the time difference is 7 hours (as of oct 1, when both counries are on light saving time), but aion shows it as only 6 hours diff (GMT+2 instead of GMT+3); so, i had to manually adjust the difference
