ELEMENTNINETY3  can someone explain to me how this is any different than using spotlight?

if you're going to name this app "A Better Finder..." something, it should at least be better than the finder's own method of doing it. clearly, this isn't.

SIMI CHAVEL  Check out "Namely." Simpler, cleaner, works perfectly, freeware.

THE VALRUS  Why reinvent the wheel? This has been done at least three times by extremely full-featured apps, two of which are free. I just don't see the point when you've got the likes of Quicksilver, Butler and Launchbar to compete with.

ANONYMOUS  LaunchBar was the first launcher for Mac OS X I have heard about (even before QuickSilver and others), and am very happy with its performance.

With all due respect to all the rest of launchers, I'll keep supporting LB.

DOGMA00  I second the previous comment.

Launchbar is the most reliable and it has the best latency.

CRAZYSWEDISHGUY  I say Butler kicks both Launchbar's and Quicksilver's asses. Butler rules. I'm addicted.

A NONY MOUSE  I agree. Quicksilver is a clear winner in this contest. And it's FREE!

ANONYMOUS  Don't you mean Quicksilver is a clear winner in this contest BECAUSE it's free?

ANONYMOUS  QuickSilver apparently doesn't learn which shortcuts I want to use for certain apps, whereas Launchbar does that. When I type "PS" and it comes up with something different, I choose to launch Photoshop. Next time I type "PS", Launchbar will come up with Photoshop.

Quicksilver requires the user to adjust to the software, this is bad software design. THe only thing that makes it a contender is that it's free.

MU5TI  " QuickSilver apparently doesn't learn which shortcuts I want to use for certain apps, whereas Launchbar does that."

Really?

It not only learns by itself, you can teach it, too. Everytime you select an app after typing the desired abbreviation, its score is increased. Do this a few times, and it'll be the first app to appear with that certain abbreviation. Or go ahead and assign your own abbreviation right away.

There's so much attention to detail in QS that it is mind-boggling. Butler is very good, LaunchBar was the original, but QS is head and shoulders above those two. Use it more than five minutes, and see for yourself.

***½.

DRAGONDOG  i definitely prefer launchbar, but for a 1.0 release and a fourth of the cost, this app has its merits. at the least, it is visually interesting and features will likely be expanded in the future. one annoyance is the frequency of the shareware reminder which doesn't allow one to get a usability feel for any length of time.
