LEXXY Actually, the application does NOT earn the "i" in its name. Organisation ist not an ease and movie import is EXTREMLY slow. Negative things that I have discovered: Batch processing is not possible (having to add Album, Author etc to each video one by one is a pain in the a**) Groupings not possible (i.e Author, Album, etc) Instead of cataloging videos, the application imports them, even if "Keep Videos where they are" is set in the settings panel. Application crashes constantly when playing videos with the iVideo Player (.wmv in specific) Good approach, but sparse performance. (Version 4.1.2)

Movie importing can be slow for certain movie formats (mostly MKV and WMV), but unfortunately there's not much I can do about that. The crashes are probably caused by the WMV plugin. For anyone with a large selection of WMV and MKV files, I'd recommend setting QuickTime Player as the default playback program and only using iVideo for organization. The other movie formats generally import very quickly and work great. I'm not sure what you mean by groupings, but you can sort by artist or make a smart playlist that displays movies by an artist. Not being able to edit extended information for multiple movies at the same time was an oversight of mine, and I apologize for that. I will add support for it in the next update. By the way, importing does not necessarily mean copying. If you have your library set to "keep files where they are", your files *will* remain where they are. iVideo uses the import process to gather information about your movies and save that information to the library. The files themselves are not modified in any way, nor is anything copied. - Mike McFadden (Version 4.1.2)

ALLANMACAM I like the app very much. It really suits what I want it to do and works great, no problems. The only hitch appears if I wish to export a movie or number of movies. The exporting is so very, painfully slow. It's not the machine. I'm on a MacPro Quad-Core Intel with 8 GB of RAM! (Version 4.1.2)

IMACSUPPORTER When I start iVideo at says 15-days are over. But ... I installed it for the first time. Am I doing something wrong? (Version 4.1.2)

MIKE.MCFADDEN I made a few changes to iVideo in response to the problems reported here: - iVideo is now a 15-day demo instead of limiting you to 25 movies per library. This will allow you to make sure iVideo can handle all of your movies correctly. - Importing is now handled by a separate helper app that runs in the background, which means iVideo will be more stable during imports. Hopefully that will result in a much improved experience for some people. (Version 4.1)

CYMORROW This is a short review about the latest (as of 2009.03.16) version (4.0.3 v865) of iVideo. I did not understand the high rating this application has but I noticed that most of the reviews are very old, not for the current version This looked like a good app when it was offered as a deal on MacUpdate but now I am on the verge of requesting a refund, deal or no deal. I originally purchased this application to catalog my large video library. I was not aware of any "Mac" like applications for this purpose in the past. I was pleasantly surprised by the resemblance of the user interface to iPhoto. But that is where the resemblance stopped. None of the functions I tried worked in anyway expected at all. At first, I let the application search for all video files automatically as sugested by the application. After running a very long time, the application aborted. When I relaunched, it had found some files including many clips which I do ont consider movies. So I started over again by removing the app and the library. I set preferences is to keep the movies where they are and chose to find movies by myself. I selected VLC to be the default player. Importing movies file by file takes an extraordinary long time, about 40 minutes for 20 movies. Remember, it is only finding movies and cataloging them, not importing or re-encoding. Worse, during this time, the application shows as not responding with a spinning wheel so I could not stop importing as the button suggested I could. But I could tell progress was being made because the movie count and the movie name was advancing. After the import, I clicked on a movie but it took 5-6 minutes before it started playing and the play was very choppy at best. I checked but it did not seem to be using VLC to play as I had selected in the preferences. Further more, it was using 110% CPU resources (I have quad core). Any time I click on the movie, it froze for an additional 2-3 minutes before pausing or continuing. Ths was enough, this application is completely unusable and I have requested a refund. MIKE.MCFADDEN As I said in the response to the the email you sent me, that is QuickTime causing the crashes, not iVideo. There are good reviews because the problem you are experiencing is uncommon. (although it apparently makes people highly motivated to write reviews) QuickTime is generally very stable and can robustly deal with a large variety of movie files, but some people seem to end up with files that QuickTime can't handle well. I'm sorry, but I can't do much about that other than what I already do, which is give you access to 100% of the features in the demo and let you import any movie file you want. Also, as I told the previous person on here, I am going to attempt to work around this rare QuickTime problem by having importing be handled by a separate app, so that if QuickTime crashes or freezes I can just force quit the background app and go on to the next file. I haven't done that yet because it really is an uncommon problem. (Version 4.0.3)

UNCOY I am really annoyed about this application. I demoed it from a MacUpdate promo. It loaded in 25 files. Seemed like a nice way to browse one's videos. First announcement when licenses - it doesn't handle AVI files properly due to defects in QuickTime. I would have liked to have heard about that while we were still in demo mode thank you. iView MediaPro handles avi just ine thank you. Then iView just won't successfully complete an automatic scan of the video on my hard drive always ending in a crash (even with avi turned off). I've wasted half an hour tweaking the settings already. I want my money back. But as it's a MuPromo, no chance. A fake demo mode like this is bait and switch from the developer. Very displeased. I don't have time to waste troubleshooting gadgetware like this. Unless you have time to waste stay away. (Version 4.0.3)

MIKE.MCFADDEN Hi, I added that AVI warning because I used to get a lot of emails about iVideo crashing on them when importing their movies, and like 99% of the time it was because a stray AVI file caused QuickTime to crash (which then causes iVideo to crash). Like the dialog says, if you know your AVI files work fine in QuickTime, then continue. Other movie formats can cause QuickTime to crash too (which is what I suspect happened here), but AVI files are such a common headache that I decided to tell people beforehand about the problem. I'm not sure how you can consider anything bait-and-switch when every feature is fully available in the demo and you can import any movie files you want on your computer. Also, if you would have emailed me you would have found out that I do offer refunds for unsatisfied customers. Maybe most developers don't or something, but I do. (Version 4.0.3)

Thanks for the prompt refund. Yes, I buy a lot of shareware and a few times a year the software just doesn't work out. And one developer in particular caused a lot of trouble for me - specifically Tim Breslin of TastyApps. He refused an application swap and wrote threatening and obscene letters when I called him on it. I think what you should be doing here is either eliminating the import feature (although it is a great feature and something which attracted me to the application) or making the import routine more robust. There is absolutely no reason why the whole iVideo application needs to crash on import, even if unsuccessful. What you need is to make the import of each individual movie a subroutine. So if this subroutine crashes what happens is that the movie gets logged as incompatible and handed to the end user at the end of import. You could even flag that file not to be imported in the future. If you do manage to improve your import routine, Mike, let me know. Best of luck with iVideo. I really appreciate you taking responsibility for the end user experience. If iVideo were a core application for my work, I would take the time to debug this issue much deeper now but I have so much real work now, I just can't do it for the moment. PS. If Nate would like to take the stars off of my comment above, I would have no issues with it. Based on your prompt response, there is no reason for the low stars to remain. (Version 4.0.3)

MIKE.MCFADDEN I eventually plan on having each movie be imported from a separate helper app that runs in the background, so that if QuickTime crashes (or just locks up permanently), I can restore or force quit the helper app without iVideo having to suffer the consequences. Fortunately QuickTime is normally very stable so that those types of crashes are rare (except for those pesky AVI files). (I know hearing about how stable QuickTime *normally* is isn't much help for you specifically, but it's there in case someone else reads this) (Version 4.0.3)

I got the crashes both with and without AVI movies included for import. Import is a huge area of fragility and it comes right up front in the application. Better to fix it sooner rather than later. Best of luck with iVideo! (Version 4.0.3)

MARKAUK Nicely designed, simple to use... perfect for keeping track of video files. The developer has been very responsive to suggestions and quick to make changes so full marks on that count too. Highly recommended. (Version 4.0.3)

STORMCHILD This was a great idea for an app, but its future now seems uncertain. The company website is still up, and it looks like they have a new app called "Acrylic" on the horizon (presumably some sort of painting app?), so apparently they are still active, but iVideo hasn't been updated in two and a half years, and there is no sign that an Intel-native version is even under development -- and the company blog was last updated in 2006. I hope to see this product developed further, or a similar one introduced by another developer. (Version 3.0.2)

TOURNESOL Great app, but why has it not been updated since 2005 and why is there not a Universal version available? Seems sloppy to me. (Version 3.0.2)

STARBARK I love this app!! Now my favorite piece of software! Although, I would like to see these features: - labels (for those episodes you've already watched) - set OWN thumbnail/"previews" that are already within the video (not search your hd for an image) - pressing 'enter' to rename (just like mac os x---then 'return' will play it) - choice to delete subsections of movie library (2001, 2002, etc.) +ability to put episode number, series title, episode title, season (tv series) + ability to put movie title, year released, genre (movies) + ability to put artist, song title, album (music videos) - remove "preferences" under window because it is already under iVideo Last 5 imports shows a lot more than 5 videos! Otherwise, great app! Will watch this for sure. (Version 3.0.2)
