DESCRIPTION

SplitFuse is an OS X utility that will split videos compatible with QuickTime into multiple segments or merge video segments together that have already been split apart. It has a number of useful features:

  • Splits and merges any videos compatible with QuickTime - including most AVI, MPEG, and WMV* files
  • Cut movies into clips defined by you, into any number of equally sized segments, or into segments of a specific length
  • Save videos in multiple formats, including QuickTime, MPEG-4, AVI, WMV*, DV, and iPhone
  • Control everything about your saved videos - sound quality, compression, size, etc.
  • Split movies to upload on YouTube, or import into iMovie and Final Cut
  • Join any number of videos downloaded from the web or previously split by SplitFuse or another program
  • SplitFuse is super cheap. Other programs that do the same thing would like to charge up to 20 dollars! SplitFuse is just $11.95 USD!
WHAT'S NEW
Version 2.2:
  • Fixed a number of issues with saving files. The whole process should work much better now, and specifically DV exports should not crash the program
  • Adjust start and end points (including for clip list clips) graphically by dragging markers on the timeline
  • Added fast forward and rewind buttons
  • Double click a clip in the clip list to play only that clip in the viewer
  • Load a saved clip list back into the clip list
  • Customize split file names even further with naming templates (available in SplitFuse Preferences)
  • Splits and fuses now executed as background processes, so you can interact with the application while there is an export happening
  • Cancel splits and fuses by pressing the new Cancel button
  • Loading progress dialog appears when adding files to the fuse window
REQUIREMENTS
Mac OS X 10.2 or later.

ANONYMOUS  D-vision could merge the two 700Mb files in a matter of seconds, with no quality loss, same overall size and sound preserved ...

ANONYMOUS  Tried to fuse two 700 Mb >AVI files, using the "medium" quality compression preset (cinepack). I got a soundless AVI film whose video was so horrible that it could not be watched at.

Tried the no compression option and got a 135 Gb (!) file still soundless.

Clearly this app is not for large films and it has serious compression problemss.

A pity they should rewrite and recompress the films entirely to fuse them.

RIP0FF  Having (at least!) the Hide function enabled is greatly appreciated.

On the minus side, an updated interface which doesn't remind us of old OS X versions would not hurt, IMHO.

As for functionality & ease of use, thumbs up !

XYPHER  This actually does work much better than a lot of the other apps out there. I'm ashamed I've never stumped up for the License.

PCHARLES67  I was a bit concerned after reading some of the reviews, but so far I have had no problems combining H264 clips into one playable file regardless of whether it is a referenced file or a self contained one. I am then able to use Viddyup to convert the combined file into something for my ipod. Unless I find a major problem I intend to register this because it will help me develop files for the AppleTV.

GLOBEY  Completely non-working and useless.

Failed to do anything but create empty destination files for all attempted operations.
