RPAEGE  Makes me wonder who "Christians" works for. Anyway, MacPilot is a good product. It has way more features than I'll ever use in a lifetime, but the ones I do use are very welcome. I also happen to like developers who update regularly, as it shows dedication and integrity. If you have to tinker with your Mac, or if OS X has some "features" that you really can't live with, then chances are MacPilot can change them. It's a worthy addition to your arsenal.

KOINGO SOFTWARE  Please do not be ridiculous. Additionally, please stop flaming our review page. You are welcome to do a binary comparison between the two products and confirm we did make changes. Additionally, to confirm the memory leak is fixed, go ahead and open the Character Map window numerous times in the old version and close it. You'll notice RAM is eaten. In the new version, this no longer happens.

CHRISTIANS  So you believe the DEV?

OK, if you want I can give you proof of the memory allocations of both versions. They are 100% identical. Allthough it is compiled again with another version number and a newer version of REALBasic (the compiler directives changed a bit too).

Closing the issued windows do not have more or less memory leaks!

I just wanted to point out this issue. If you feel the need in deleting my messages, no problem. :-)

CHRISTIANS  Again an needles update to get into the top Macupdate pages !

This latest version supposed to fix a memory leak.

I know some bits about coding and debugging and used the Maloc debugger to search for some memory leaks with this version and the previous.

Both have the same amount of memory leaks at several memory allocations. Because this is written in REALBasic it has many memory leaks by default but there is absolutely no difference between the previous and this new version.

I only can conclude the developer is making fake upgrades to get noticed on Macupdate. This is not the first time I have noticed this behavior of the developers applications.

I will send a mail to Misha to inform him of this abuse.

FOULGER  Before criticising others I suggest you either improve your English or use a spellchecker. If you insist on standing at the top of a mountain make sure your posterior is covered.

THUS.SPAKE.Z  My question is this: is more necessarily better? For all practical purposes, does anyone really NEED more permutations, options, choices ?( at least a thousand in MacPilot).

I know that we in North America...especially the US) are constantly brainwashed with the notion that"you don't have enough, you need to acquire more"...always MORE, MORE, MORE!.

Does "more" necessarily improve one's life, make it really satisfying and less complicated?

Maintenance apps like Onyx, Cocktail, Leopard Cache Cleaner or Tinker Tool System work just fine for me.....do everything that, for all practical purposes, I really need done.

MacPilot is overkill, I'd say. However, if you feel the gnawing need to gorge yourself on features, on possibilities, then by all means go for it!

There is, of course,'MacPilot Lite'. It has 'merely' 150 features. (Whatsamatter, not enough for ya?) It's only $5, too.

Common sense...rational thinking is what's really needed in this matter I think.

CGC  I've been using MacPilot for about a year and find it very easy to use and it does what it claims. My only complaint is that there are too many updates for minor additions. I'd love to be able to specify the frequency of updates from "check everytime I start MacPilot" to "weekly" and "monthly." Other than that, I love this program!

JAMESB  Easily solved,

just go into MacPilot-Preferences and deselect "Check for Updates on launch".

Now you can manually check for an update whenever you choose.

STEVEN GOODHEART  Thanks for the addition of the ability to disable Mail.app's option to auto-include names in copied addresses. That's so annoying, and it's great I can now disable it.

I have (and occasionally use) Onyx, TinkerTool System, and Cocktail but I still find that MacPilot is my favorite utility in terms of the interface, number of features, and ease of use. Also, MacPilot seems to be adding features and refinements at a much quicker pace than these others. I"d hate to have to choose between MacPilot and TinkerTool System, though. They are both terrific. Try them both out and see which one you grok better, but for my money, MacPilot is the best of the bunch.

STEVEN GOODHEART  Wow, this is a great piece of software. Super powerful and a very, very intuitive interface. Even though I own Tinker Tool System, I had to add this to my toolbox. I love how quickly and easily I can make deep system changes and I love how clear and understandable the the built-in help and explanations are. Really top notch -- just bought it!
