JAlbum helps you make website albums of your digital photographs. With JAlbum, no extra software is needed to view the albums, just your web browser. Unlike "server side" album scripts, JAlbum albums can be served from a plain web server without scripting support. You can also share your albums on CD-ROM. It is written after numerous disappointments with existing album software. With JAlbum you have full control of the look of the generated album, not just color theme and basic layout, still making an album is just a matter of drag and drop + a button click if you prefer to use one of the many existing looks. It will process your images, make index pages and slide show pages and even upload the final album to the Internet for your friends to see.
Added option to control if Jalbum attempts to use hardware accelerated image scaling or not. Hardware accelerated scaling is faster, but may produce lower quality on some graphics cards
Jalbum's publish window now automatically reconnects if a connection is disconnected
Added support for IPTC location and sub location camera metadata fields
Bug fixes
Password protected albums did not always get the padlock indication in the folder tree of Jalbum's publish window.
The blur image tool could cause nullpointer exceptions
Password protected albums containing & or ' in the album name would never show as password protected in Jalbum's publish window
Foreign characters in EXIF and IPTC string fields would sometimes be misinterpreted. (This mainly affected fields encoded in "ASCII" on Mac computers as these fields would be decoded in the local computer's default character set (MacRoman on Macs) instead of using the character set set in Jalbum.)
DFK This program is brilliant! Especially with version 7, it is easy to use and looks great. The included skins are attractive and the galleries look professional.
JAlbum's greatest strength is the ability to make your own skins. It is completely customizable, flexible and easy to learn if you know HTML. There is also an active user community. Finally, if you ever need to use a PC JAlbum will run on that too. (Version 7.0)
SOMEONE00 I just want to say that the latest version of JAlbum looked quite nice on the OS X platform. Also, I hope the developer understand that OS X users tend to have a much higher expectation when it comes to Apple HIG compliance and integration due to the large percentage of 3rd party apps that follow the Apple HIG.
Instead of trying to fix some of the bugs in the aqua look and feel manually, the developer might be interested in this BSD-licensed project: http://www.randelshofer.ch/quaqua/. Quaqua is an implementation of the Apple HIG and fixes many of the quirks and bugs in the Aqua L&F that come with OS X.
ps. Despite the comment about the lack of icons, OS X application never use icons on buttons and tabs! So I suppose that particular reviewer is the one who is ignorant. The developer should simply strip all icons from the OS X version from now on (instead of wasting the trouble to make OS X- specific icons). (Version 6.2)
/USR/BIN/PAUL I tried JAlbum over a year ago and didn't like it and I tried it again today and I still do not like it. JAlbum is overall is pretty good, however I dis-like it's interface and also it's inability to intergrate into other applications, such as iPhoto or iView Media Pro. Yes, JAlbum has great templates, but I'm sorry, I cannot get over it's clumsy interface and lack of intergration. For now I'm sticking with Galerie! (Version 5.2.2)
ERIC BAKKEN I've used most album programs for the Mac: Iphoto, Galerie, Photoshop, Photo2Web, and I'm sure a few others along the way. I love the features and the customizability of this app, and, for once, the fact that is a Java app--more people will be writing great templates for it! (Version 4.0.1)
