DESCRIPTION
Emulator Enhancer plugin adds a number of additional features to many of the emulators available from this site. These include:

  • Bilinear Filtering
  • Full screen mode
  • Screen Curvature
  • USB Gamepad and Joystick support
  • VBL Synchronised Video
WHAT'S NEW
Version 2.3: - Fixed an obscure endian bug that resulted in odd window sizes when an emulator preferences file was moved between PowerPC and Intel. - Modified the behaviour of the Quick Freeze function, so that the last ten quick freezes for each game are kept in ~/Library/Application Support/Bannister/(emulator name)/Saved States. You can restore these at any time using the Defrost menu command. Added code to stop the quick freeze and quick defrost keys from being repeated. Thanks to David McCabe for the suggestion. - Replaced custom about box with standard HIAboutBox. Removed option to pause execution when about box is open. - Brushed metal mode is now off by default on new installs, as well as existing installs where users press the Default button. - Audio recording no longer stops when emulator is switched to background, provided that the option to keep emulating in background is on. Recording will still stop if the emulator does. - Fixed several minor visual glitches in the Preferences dialog box.
REQUIREMENTS
Various emulators.

VERYCARLA  Slightly overpriced, but not so much so as to be outrageous. Worth the money just for the added graphics modes alone.

THECAUSE  I asked the author why I had to continually update their software and if they could do a software update program for their software to make the lives of their users much easier instead of having to download a new copy almost monthly, unstuff it and replace the old version.

It gets even more complex with the Emulator Enhancer add on which also needs regular updates.

This is the reply that I recieved when I voiced these concerns:

"I see no need for automatic updating, as such a feature provides a whole lot of dead traffic to my web site - which

has to be paid for - and is a relatively minor issue as anyone who

looks at my web page can quickly see what the latest versions are."

-Richard Bannister March 13, 2006

So all we, the users, are to the author is traffic. This concept of visiting a website would be a decent idea in the ideal world but must be a complete headache for the modem users, the people that lack a constant internet connection and the people who actually want to play these emulators.

If the author desires so much traffic then maybe he can do so by providing some content on the webpage such as more information/help files/forums on the products he offers instead of forced updates.

I want to run an application that works, not a car that needs tuneups, upgrades add ons and trips to get serviced.

JIM RIBS  Like most software it gets updated from time to time and his emulators aren't updated so often you would need an update program. Like he said it would just cost him a lot of dead traffic. This software is released as freeware so if you don't like it, don't download it and quit blaming the devs cause you don't like their free work.

DANIELFLUGT  Couldn't agree more with the other reply - Emulators are rarely updated, so there is no need for automatic updates

Besides, I hate when people complain about lack of support for free software. Why should he pay for dead traffic when you get his software for free?

The fact alone that you rate stability, value, features and ease of use by one star each shows that you don't really care for the software nor the brilliant MacUpdate site for that matter, as you only see it fit for crying about a polite reply from a developer, who actually takes time to reply you without gaining any profit whatsoever. As far as I'm concerned, you're nothing but a spoiled child

Grow up

EGGMAN  Uh, are you both high? Emulator Enhancer is NOT free - it's $30. Yes, you don't need it to use the emulators, but if you've paid the fee to restore functionality that was REMOVED from the open source Windows versions that Bannister ports over to Mac, the least you could expect is some decent update support.

EMULAUNCH  All of Richard's emulators are full usable without EE. Some great new additions have been made to EE2 (such as icon creation) and I gladly paid my registration long ago (I was really surprised that I got a free upgrade). 95% of the work he has done on about 25 emulators is free of charge. EE simply adds some useful additions to all of these such as joystick support (something which can be added with other programs but is much easier using EE) and video filters.

PO60T  Updated to the universal binary of EE fine. (Just rember not to try and use the coupon code as a serial, instead use it to register for a new serial)!

Once again this is great addition to all of the emulators Richard has worked on.

$25 to support RB is not to much to ask. RB has done a tremendous amount of work for the Emu scene on the mac.

Support him, you ungrateful brats!

THECAUSE  It is very annoying that you have to keep downloading new updates constantly because the past version is one month old. I contacted the author on this matter and they simply gave me the run around with much justification. How about automatic updates through the application?

Ridiculous.

PISSED AGAIN  this is ridiculous, and the main reason i hate using an apple == everyone is trying to sucker you out of $20 for the same thing you get for free on a pc. i'll be happy when apple goes to intel and promptly out of business. i think i'd rather have to deal with malware and viruses on a pc than have to pay $20 to play a game of solitaire (or use a joystick) in peace.

pretty cute of this bannister guy to "add" a bunch of "features" to his ports with a single module and then charge for it.

there must be some tight coding going on too, i can almost look at flash and emulate a 20 year old console at the same time.

AETNARIA  You don't have to pay $20 for a game of solitaire. Certainly, there's a lot of commercial and shareware versions out there, but there's also a lot of free ones. If you want everything free, look to Linux.

His emulators are by no means crippled. They work fine with the keyboard, and you could always look into a USB game controller that comes with its own driver with configuration possibilities for inputting keyboard keypress equivalents.

I don't begrudge him the cost of these additional features. He works hard on updating a lot of emulators, and for what? A pat on the back? He charges nothing for most of them. I purchased Emulator Enhancer back when it was under $20, and I haven't looked back. It was worth it, and still is. Give credit where credit is due.

HENHOUSE HARRY  RB is a god !

I've *just* registered for EE and it's made my retro games so much better. RB is making some fantastic emulators also - they are all free 4u to use and charging for EE is a great way to enjoy his work at its max.

Less than 20 ukpounds too. Thank you!!!

NEVER! You're kidding me!!!
