MAREK  I bought Saft some time ago (it was 'Saft for Tiger' then) and was not using it much. Now I wanted to use it on my new Snow Leopard system, so I paid for upgrade ($8). But I still can't register my demo of 'Saft for Snow Leopard', because Li Hao allows me to download 'Saft for Leopard' license only! To get newest version I HAVE TO UPGRADE AGAIN (another $8, which makes "UPGRADE" $1 more expensive than buying FULL LICENSE ($15).

I asked Li Hao about that, but he just ignores my emails. Now I am trying to get refund from PayPal.

I highly recommend 'Glims' and "Glimmer Blocker' duo to get full Saft replacement FOR FREE!

Eat my five bucks, Li Hao!

MISTERE  Another happy switcher here. I installed Glims when I upgraded to SL (10.6) and haven't looked back. You've killed the goose that laid the golden eggs Hao Li. Bye.

DONPERREAULT  Glims is free, tired of Saft developer charging for every single Safari upgrade. I've paid my fair share of upgrade fee's to the Saft Developer. I've moved on!

GBBOB  Do not download this piece of crap. If you do, you will not be able to fully delete it. It is a damn haxie that attaches a piece of itself to a part of Safari. As I wrote earlier once you delete it, it will bring up a dialog box asking you to put Saft back in the app, folder and it also then stops your home page from loading even after you click the OK button. When Safai 4.0.4 came out I thought it would solve the problem based on what I read in the Saft help. It did not. Still every time I open Safari I get that damn box and my home page does not load. This prick of a programmer gives us no way to fully uninstall Saft. Several updates have come out since my first comment and still no uninstaller. What kind of person is this that makes a utility with no off key. The only reason I can get from all this is that the programmer is using the dialog box to annoy the user to the point that they pay for the crap he is shoving up our butts. Well, sadly I am unemployed and not well and need the money for more important things. I curse this coward for not supplying a way to get rid of this trash. I urge people to boycott Saft and use the free utility Glims that basically does that the same as Saft. End of Line...

ROBOTANK  What version of OS X are you using? Saft installs a plugin as well as the launcher application, and it sounds like this hasn't been removed. If you're on Leopard (or running Safari in 32-bit on Snow Leopard), there should be a bundle (Saft.bundle) in /Library/InputManagers. I haven't used the Saft Snow Leopard version, but as I understand it, it can either use the launcher or the Snow Leopard compatible version of SIMBL to load for 64-bit Safari. If you're using the SIMBL method, check in /Library/Application Support/SIMBL/Plugins or ~/Library/Application Support/SIMBL/Plugins for the Saft bundle. Saft is not impossible to uninstall--I know because I've uninstalled myself :) You just need to find out where the bundle is hiding.

GBBOB  Thank you so much for the help and info. The extra parts to the program were exactly where you said it would be. I am surprise that CleanApp did not locate it when I trashed the dang thing the first. Again I say that it really stinks that the hack of a programmer does not supply a read me telling the user how to implement the program and what is placed where since there is nothing in the Help menu about it and how little the programmer cares about his user base. I just hope what comes around goes around applies to this hack. For over 20 years I reviewed Mac Utilities and had no problem getting answers whether they were commercial, shareware or freeware developers. Based on current comments, I think Saft (or more apt Shaft) rating should be reassessed. Don't support a person who does not care about his user base. End of Line...

**...

KERNELG  I have used and recommended Saft for years. While hesitant, I sprung for the upgrade to the Snow Leopard version when it was finally out of beta. This was a mistake.

With Glims now available for free, the only reason I wanted to get Saft back on my system was ad blocking. I am tired of seeing the same damned "I got ripped in 4 weeks" and countless Internet dating ads. I also had many years of carefully selected ad blocking patterns built up. Why am I so disappointed?

Saft ad blocking no longer works properly.

Oh, it works if you try to load a single image directly. You'll get a Safari dialog which describes how the image could not be loaded because Saft blocked the URL based on a given pattern. But there the ad sits in the middle of a web page, displayed as normal. This occurs through refresh, re-launch, cache reset, Saft settings wipe, and even a full Safari reset. As a Saft user for years, I know how it's supposed to work and it does not. For the record, this is with the SIMBL plug-in install, running Safari in 64 bit mode. (The other methods cripple Safari, and are not an option.)

Why not just report this to the developer? Because I have reported issues and asked questions in the past and I've learned that you may, or may not, get a reply weeks later, and it will rarely be more than one sentence which may, or may not, be relevant to the topic. In other words, the message is now "go away." Message received.

I would no longer recommend paying for Saft. Good luck navigating his web site if you wanted to. If you don't need ad blocking, definitely go with Glims for free.

KERNELG  Just popped up on the radar: Safari AdBlocker 1.1.1. It's free, 64-bit ready, and the new version works perfectly in Snow Leopard via SIMBL. The installer even includes SIMBL, whereas Saft didn't even provide a link to the SIMBL web site.

DWETTE  Just use GlimmerBlock for ad blocking. It installs as a System preference and is not tied to the browser. It works great.

KERNELG  Sorry, no. GlimmerBlocker was the first alternative that I tried. It causes Safari to stall out at random times, and created massive lag in network applications besides Safari because it's a proxy at the OS level. It is not a viable solution at all.

BONOBO  I'd registered Saft quite some time ago, and for sure I've also upgraded every time Hao Li wanted us to upgrade which meant upgrade everytime Mac OS X was upgraded (10.3->10.4->10.5).

But now I'm fed up. EVERY TIME Safari got a minor update we had to wait for a new version of Saft, where Hao Li often only had to enable Saft for this version number (as some brave people had proved by hacking Saft's prefs file or something), this making us far too dependent on Hao Li.

Now I'm happily using Glims http://www.machangout.com/ which can do almost everything Saft can (and Glims is catching up FAST) plus quite a few other things.

So, Hao Li, it was *relatively* nice while it lasted: Though Saft was great, your communication and update policy was, uhm, let me say "suboptimal".

I'm splitting, I've found another love. Thanks and bye.

PSYCHOS  I'm in the same boat. The developer could have kept far more of us previously-loyal Saft users simply by not trying to wring every dollar out of us. The last straw was the initial 32-bit Snow Leopard update. It provided no new functionality, and from what I know of the innards of the OS and Safari, probably took the same 5 minutes as your usual Safari version bump for the developer to do. $8 for this? Sorry, no.

I'm happy with Glims now. The only thing I miss from Saft is integrated ad-blocking. I'm using currently GlimmerBlocker; I'd rather have a plugin than have a proxy server running, but this meets my needs for now. Other than that, Glims has everything that Saft added for me, and more. (I don't think I could go without having "," and "." to move back and forth through tabs now, for one.)

CORPSECORPS  "Bad"?! That's no review. That's pathetic.

Calling it bad software and giving one star is utterly useless to anyone else reading it.

Bad how? Why?

MISTERSQUID  I've spent too much money upgrading SAFT to spend more time (money) articulating what's wrong with SAFT now.

SAFT's functionality is must-have and when it was the only game in town, we all tolerated the slow updates.

Now that Glims is available I can say things like SAFT is bad software and not spend time being redundant.

GBBOB  I have used and reviewed many utilities over the years and saft is the worst in implementation. First there is no read me file to tell you anything about the program, how to install, and what it installs once it is implemented within Safari. When I got to the end of the trial period, I decided not to keep it since I was using Glims and it did basically the same as Saft. So I took the app and trashed it and allowed clean app to locate any related files. The next time I launched Safari, I got a dialog box saying Saft is missing and ask me to reinstall the app. What I did not understand was why am I getting such a box if i deleted it. So I went into my archive folder found my original copy of Saft and booted the app. That was when I finally found the help for it. After going through the help, I discovered that Saft is a damn HAXIE. When it launches with Safari for the first time it places hooks into some component of Safari and there is no way to remove these pieces even if you do a reinstall of Safari which I tried. So now every time I launch Safari I first have to wait for the box to come up, click on OK and then Safari will load but I have to hit the damn OK button before Safari will load completely. Even in the help notes there are no information on how to uninstall Saft because you can't fully do. So either you buy or get use to that annoying box. You do not write a utility that cannot be fully uninstalled or have a script to remove all the parts. To me this author is nothing but a schmuck and a shyster and we all should boycot Saft and use Glims. END OF LINE...
