PETER BLACK  I hate this app and the developers are not that responsive. I've used it since 3.1 and have seen GUI changes that have just been confusing. Other problems like problems selecting text have not been solved. What pisses me off the most is the constant money grubbing for every new update. In stark comparison is Koingo where I have had years of upgrades for free. Today I find DL just plain confusing - I have a CD label and want to make a jewel case cover label and can't figure it out, nor will the program do it for me - that would be a welcome change and worth $$$! YMMV but I'm looking elsewhere unless these guys give me a free upgrade and improve the app.

GM80  My first experience with DiscLabel was with version 5.1. I purchased it shortly after purchasing a LightScribe writer, because as far as I know it is the only non-brand-specific means of creating a full-face graphical label on a LightScribe disc.

It performs that function well, burning the label to a disc in my Pioneer external drive with no significant problems.

I appreciate the effort to link into the iLife suite.

I do not like the program's interface. Several parts of it look visually broken in Leopard, with random rectangles and shading scattered around the window. After using many beautiful Mac apps over the past several years, this feels like a return to Windows shareware in terms of UI appeal.

Other apps perform similar on-screen layout functions with a much better "feel" ... perhaps the devs should take a look at what others are doing for a little inspiration. Mac users like standard toolbars, palettes, HUDs, etc.

Also, I do not like being bugged to consider purchasing their Business Pack of graphics every time I start my PAID, REGISTERED app as of v5.1.2. Clicking "Later" results in me seeing the offer every time I start the app.

Basically while this works well for what it advertises, it feels like a Panther app that's not quite at home on Leopard in many senses. There are no functionality problems, though ... if you want to burn LightScribe discs with plenty of control over your label, you probably need DiscLabel.

APPLE CODER  Using only the demo copy, I gave up after 15 minutes of trying to print a test. Two other apps I tried had it printed in under 5.

This is not an intuitive program. Too many buttons that work with iLife need to have a pref to remove them if one does not use iLife, iPhoto, and so forth.

I was really hoping this would do what I wanted, but it was frustrating to use.

NAOH  I'm one user who has actually found DiscLabel to be a pretty usable piece of software.

Although it has shortcomings and limitations, those are more than made up by the accuracy of the built-in templates.

I have used a few other CD/DVD labelling applications, and they all required me to endlessly tweak and adjust the settings when using the standard templates that were supposed to match various label templates, and even when printing directly onto discs.

DiscLabel just worked for me.

It could be that I was just lucky. Without any detailed information about why the other reviewers find this software doesn't meet their expectations, I can't comment on their reviews in any meaningful way.

As I mentioned earlier, DiscLabel isn't perfect.

One strange bit of behaviour I experienced with it, was when upgrading to a newer version, the colours of previously saved designs were inverted/corrupted.

Fortunately I didn't need those designs any more. If I had needed them, it would have been a huge inconvenience to repeat the work.

One item I would wish for, is the ability to save or export designs for archiving and exchange with others. (Exporting editable designs into a common interchange format would be ideal.)

Even with the shortcomings, I find myself returning to DiscLabel whenever I need to print labels onto optical media.

ANONYMOUS  Well, I suppose this program could be a neat improvement over the version I bought, then discarded. However, thanks to Apple's latest security upgrades, my admin-level account cannot be used to install it... even when 'open'ed in a Terminal session with a sudo command, the installer fails when it tries to create the directories in the Applications folder for disclabel.

Given that I have none of these issues with other programs I have recently installed, I would appreciate if the developers could release a version that allows drag&drop installation from a disk image. Then, all I have to do is authenticate via the OS, which is easy enough.

ANONYMOUS  Though there are certainly some nice features in this app, it is also extremely confounding to use. The selection tools are minimal and frustrating to use; it's a hassle to select text boxes, for instance. The drawing tools are minimal as well; you can't even draw a circular line or border.

Disclabel desperately needs a eyedropper tool for color matching, too, and better font/character formatting options, like line height, etc. Also, it doesn't offer hardly any image management or manipulation capabilities.

I hope the developers roll up their sleeves and go to work improving this program. It does have potential to be a worthwhile app.

STAND_1998  After purchasing a Memorex CD/DVD label kit, I was very disappointed with the Mac supported software. It wouldn't finish printing the label!

I downloaded many demos of other label software, and found this to be the best.

My complaints are few: un-intuitive interface, hard to edit text, and printer setup utility should be in a menu (I have printed many calibration sheets thinking that the print button was for the label).

Conclusion - it works and I'm happy! I'm sure that the features will make this product a much more valuable piece of software, but for now I'm happy that it works.

ANONYMOUS  Great improvement over earlier versions. Love the control and the Mac feel to everything. The inital upgrade price was worth it for the improvements.
