NoSleep enables Apple PowerBooks and iBooks to run with closed lid.
It provied a menu extra to enabled and disable automatic sleep on lid close.
NoSleep requires to patch the Mac OS X system with a new kernel. Your system is automatically detected and a link to the patch is provided
ANONYMOUS Doesn't work at all on 10.4 (site says only supports 10.2.6, nothing later or earlier). To uninstall, remove /Library/Bundles/MenuCracker.menu and Library/Bundles/NoSleep.menu.
PAUL This installs beauifuly, but then needs a patch which it can't download! A waste of time, because then getting it off your machine is a mission! Pity, I really wanted it (Version 3.0B3)
NT how do you uninstall this software? I can't find a way to get it off my system. (Version 3.0B3)

ANONYMOUS The developer's site has disappeared.
Can't download the software to check and see if there are any docs to help with the issue.
How thoughtful of this person to create software and then just disappear with no trace.
One thing to learn from this, make sure you know how to UN-install something before you install it. (Version 3.0B3)

ANONYMOUS Patches to the kernel are not a good thing. They are cause to expect more crashes that you previously had. That's my two cents. (Version 3.0B3)
IMACTHERE4IAM I don't know if it is true, but i have read stories of apple repair centres receiving macs with melted keys, fried LCDs, and other components damaged by the head created by hacked laptops running with the lid down and so not being able to lose heat through convection out of the keyboard, which is how it is mostly meant to. I would advise extreme caution when using this. (Version 3.0B3)
ANONYMOUS That's very unlikely, since most recent PowerBooks will quite happily run with the lid shut when an external keyboard & mouse are present, and this is an officially supported feature. (Version 3.0B3)

ANONYMOUS It's not true. Put your hands over the keyboard, it doesn't have much heat and it definatly doesn't 'use' the keyboard for cooling. (Version 3.0B3)

DMITRY I've installed it onto my iBook and thought it is great. Once I forgot to shutdown this utility and my battery was drained and I had to fix it at Apple's technical center. (Version 3.0B3)
ANONYMOUS Is it me, or does this also turn off the iBook FANS as well? I've noticed my laptop will get very, VERY hot while in NoSleep mode, and as soon as I open it up, the first thing that happens is my fan goes on.
Would that be the source of those "May damage laptop" comments?
When does the 10.2.8 update come out? (Version 3.0B3)
