DESCRIPTION
SnapNDrag lets you take a screenshot by just clicking a button and dragging the resulting screenshot off.

For example, to email a screenshot, you would drag the screenshot from SnapNDrag to the Mail application. It is that simple. No hard-to-remember key combinations, no file conversion to deal with, no file dialog boxes to navigate, no temporary files to erase later on.

Supports PNG and TIFF for times when image quality cannot be compromised. Or use JPEG with adjustable quality for smaller file sizes.

If you like SnapNDrag, consider upgrading to SnapNDrag Pro for even more features:

  • Ability to scale down screenshots
  • Global hot keys for quick access
  • Option to turn off sponsor's message
WHAT'S NEW
Verison 2.5.1:
  • Added the option to hide file extension.
REQUIREMENTS
Mac OS X 10.4 or later.

MUSI  I've been using this app for a long time, and since I bought EasyCrop (another fantastic, and IMO, the best and easiest cropping tool), it qualified me to upgrade to SnapNDrag Pro.

SnapNDrag is as easy and as good as it gets. Anytime I take a screen shot using any other method, I always end up coming back to this app because it is just so convenient. You have many options, can choose your output file format (tiff, png, jpeg), can make a timed screenshot, do a selection or the whole window. Then just drag the item wherever you want it to go. The fact that this is also a free app makes it that much more justifiable to use, since Apple gives you the key commands to take screenshots and also the Grab interface for free as well. However, SnapNDrag is still so much nicer to use. Intuitive, easy, quick, and stable, with a clean and uncluttered interface. Never in all the time that I've used it has it ever crashed or corrupted / interrupted my system. It is how an app should be done. I highly recommend it.

ALEXIUSCA  does this - or any utility - allow screenshots to be saved with the date in the filename?

i'm sick of having dozens of "picture 1, 2, etc"

FREE_DEVELOPMENT  yes, try SharpShooter. I use it all the time. It is the best I have found so far.

CEILING CAT  "But if you find it annoying that Shift-CMD-4 can only produce PDF files..."

Untrue for Leopard; the default screenshot format is now PNG, and by using the right terminal command or any number of free "hidden option" changers, users can pick from 10 different formats.

In fact, I think this is even untrue for earlier versions of OS X; I'm sure my old Panther and Tiger installs used .TIFF, not .PDF?

CHRISWAN  I've been using this app since I was relatively new to Mac

Great little app, never failed me, and the Pro version is just 5 dollar

Would like to see an updated app and GUI icons

MARTHI  The developer had better fix bugs than introduce new features. I have been writing to the developer since version 2.2 in April 2007 to notify him of the following bug, without him fixing the bug. Under Panther 10.3.9 the menubar icon is irresponsive when the app is automatically launched at login, with the option set to run without dock icon. I recently also noted that under Tiger 10.3.9, checking the box to automatically launch the app at login, is unsuccessful at the first attempt. Similarly with unchecking this box.

FOULGER  Watch out Snapz pro! Ambrosias policy of concentrating on games rather than create a UB version of their excellent programme is only leaving the door open for other developers to produce an alternative. Remember Quark and their attitude that they were the only kid on the block? Now InDesign is the new industry standard. Go to it yellow mug - the opportunity is there.

BJ00RN  Just a small comment about the built-in screenshot functionality which is claimed to be PDF-only. It is not limited to the PDF format. You can choose whatever file-format you'd like to have by default by setting the parameter in "Onyx" (f.ex.).
