DESCRIPTION
URL Manager Pro is a bookmark manager for Safari, Explorer, OmniWeb, Mozilla, Netscape, iCab and Camino browsers, making it easier to manage bookmarks, email addresses and news groups. Features include:
- System-Wide Access:You can access your bookmarks in any application through a system menu.
- Integration : You have access to your bookmarks from your browser's menu bar and from the Mac OS X Dock.
- Document Storage : Your bookmarks are stored in URL Manager Pro bookmark documents, which you can store and manipulate in the normal Macintosh way. No need to hunt for your bookmarks in preferences folders of browsers. You can make automatic periodic saves and make copies of bookmark documents on backup devices on each save.
- History : You can surf the web using several different browsers while URL Manager Pro will keep recording the History of each.
- Importing and exporting bookmarks : The File menu gives you a list of all of the browsers that URL Manager Pro can import from and export to. It lets you 'harvest' bookmarks by scanning HTML and text files for bookmarks and URLs.
- It lets you edit and organize bookmarks fast : You can use inline
editing, label and color your bookmarks.
- Tap Sherlock power : You can index your bookmark file and tap the power of Sherlock to look for words in your bookmark files.
REQUIREMENTS
Mac OS X 10.2 or later.

JFM It is important to know that URL Manager Pro does NO LONGER WORK WITH SAFARI 4. It cannot export to Safari 4 and actually deletes the existing bookmarks from Safari 4. Be warned, and let's hope that the developer will issue a new version soon. For the time being, I have found the following trick for exporting from URL Manager Pro to Safari 4: 1) export to Camino (one of the few browsers for which the export still seems to work fine); 2) then use BookIt (or buy it, in case you do not have it already); 3) use BookIt for exporting from Camino to Safari. It works - at least a temporary substitute... (Version 3.5b10)

SALPARADISE I've been using URL Manager Pro for more than a decade and it has been excellent. Sad to say that it's time to look for something 21st century. This app is still not universal- runs under Rosetta. It needs a modern interface, tagging and smart folders and sophisticated searching. I think the most significant improvement is that he finally got tired of having to support difficulties of password expiration, which i never understood. The problem with it is that it relies on a conventional folder structure and remembering where a bookmark is located. What worked with a few hundred bookmarks just doesn't work when the number increase exponentially. Drilling down through a folder structure, guessing where i might have place a bookmark in order to locate it is a pre OS X strategy that has been replaced the modern environment with multi-level search using smart folders tagging and multiple search criteria with a quick, intuitive interface. If Alco would just redesign UMP so that it's as effective in today's context as it was in the previous millennium i'd buy it again. But for now i just have to get away from conventional folder structures, mousing to place and retrieve and relying on my own memory to make such a system effective. and, UMP doesn't generate valid .xbel files that will import into other bookmark apps (they aren't valid, have errors). portability of data is essential. I really wish I could just pay Alco for a good update rather than having to search for something new. (Version 3.5b10)

XANTHIPPE I have been using this almost as long as I have been on the internet. i.e. for more than 10 years. It has never let me down. Of course I have been wondering why no updates have appeared (apart from those that made it compatible with the latest OS and browser versions) - but then: it didn't really need improving. It has always done all I wanted it to do. I've always had all my bookmarks in all my browsers - and as a web developer I have plenty. (Version 3.5b10)

RONL I think it's unfair for some reviewers to complain because this hasn't been updated. How many apps can you think of that would have worked fine through all of the OS X updates? NONE! Thanks Alco! And WebConfidential also is working fine. (Version 3.5b10)

ESPIRIDION I don't like rating beta versions, but given the previous review I'll add my rating. I've used this software for years. Right now I'm using 3.4.4 which is from late 2005. Beta versions for URL manager Pro 3.5 have been around at least since May of 2006 (3.5b2). Version 3.5 is a FREE UPGRADE for URL Manager Pro 3.x users, btw. 3.4.4 works fine for my needs, along with WebConfidential. I do have other similar programs (e.g., Bookdog, 1Password) but URL Manger Pro and WebConfidential have never let me down. 3.5b10 was released on Feb 7, 2008. The previous beta version is from January 10, 2008. The three years between this beta and the previous beta look more like one month to me. On the rare occasion when I have needed support, it was as simple as emailing Alco. I have other programs that get updated very frequently, sometimes on a monthly or weekly basis. I'm actually glad that URL MP has worked as expected since I purchased it, and I have not needed any update to make it work for me. And again, if I needed something or had an issue with the software, the solution is as easy as contacting Alco. The previous 2-star rating and the weak argument presented should not prevent users from giving this a try. It's actually pretty good software. (Version 3.5b10)

GRYPHONENT Too little too late. I cannot believe that after almost 3 years the developer releases a beta that picks up where the other beta left so long ago. I'm disappointed and have moved on to BookIt, which I can wholeheartedly recommend. WebConfidential and URLManagerPro have gone the way of the Dodo. (Version 3.5b10)

BRENTB It's disappointing to me; I used this software for years. That is, up until I paid for Bookit yesterday. Updates and information used to come out regularly, but then one day it's as if everything related to URLMP just froze. Is Alco OK? (I ask that without sarcasm.) I agree with the previous posts that just a quick update would go a long way. It might have kept me from switching. While I might be using other software (for now), I don't want to see URLMP abandoned, but instead revived and improved. (Version 3.4.4)

ESPIRIDION Thanks for your comment about my TR2 review :) URLMP is still being developed by Alco. You can email him with feedback and suggestions. There's a beta 3.5 which I believe will be a free upgrade for 3.X users. I think the current beta is b7. http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/urlmanagerpro/ Although URLMP has not been updated in a long time, it's still the one I use everyday, along with Web Confidential. BRENTB You're welcome; I appreciate reviews that are more than just your typical "great software!" or "beware! This crashed my computer!" I'm glad to hear Alco is OK, and that he's got updates for URLMP in the works. Thanks for the update! (Version 3.4.4)

STONEMAN Yes, developers like this really need to get it together and add a blog to their sites, so that we know what's up. (Version 3.4.4)

IAMDORIAN I am probably not alone in wishing that this developer let us all know if development will ever be continued on this great program, or not. It's starting to look like the next alternative is going to be Bookdog (curently at v3.11.23), which is sad considering the potential shown by this application. So, how's about some good news for 2007? (disheartened user) (Version 3.4.4)
