DESCRIPTION
MacPAR deLuxe is a utility program that can be useful to you if you upload and download binary files to and from Internet newsgroups.

It's main functions are:

  • Ensure error-free transport of the data by means of so called "par" files; Unpack data from a RAR archive (most of the files in newsgroups are compressed with rar); Automatically start an external program (such as Stuffit Expander) to process downloaded files.
WHAT'S NEW
Version 3.8:
  • You can now configure a folder where the Unrar results will always be written.
  • Added a configuration option for fully unattended operation.
  • Added a configuration option to limit the number of CPU cores used for par2 processing. Default is still to use all cores.
  • In Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) on an Intel Macintosh the par2 process now runs in 64-bit mode, resulting in a slight performance improvement.
  • The Quit menu is now disabled while a par or unrar is running. You must explicitly cancel before quitting.
  • Before starting the par / par2 process the program now checks if the folder is writable.
  • The program no longer runs on Mac OSX 10.3.x (Panther). Supported systems are 10.4.x (Tiger) and 10.5.x (Leopard).
REQUIREMENTS
Mac OS X 10.3.9 or later.

LENNY81  I don't see in the preferences, any option for overwriting files instead of renaming them. something which quickpar does and saves unnecessary time wasting. (Deleting old parts after being renamed then running the application again to correct the renamed files.) All broken part get renamed to xxx10.1 xxx11.1 etc.  (Version 3.8)

SMOLDERSONLINE  Fully agree with serphium's review - an excellent tool. Indeed an option to turn off MacPar searching for files would even enhance the tool. Thank you!   (Version 3.8)

SERPHIUM  Overall, an excellent program. Does what it's supposed to do.

I do have a few wishes though.

MacPar likes to look at all files in a directory (even if they are not matched by name in the par file). It would be nice to have an option for turning this off.

A built-in SFV checker would be wonderful.

And this is just a little nitpick, but the icons look quite dated. Would be nice to see them refreshed.  (Version 3.7)

DOM21  Indispensible. Five stars. For the _rare_ times this won't do the job there are other apps that will.  (Version 3.7)
