DESCRIPTION
Deep Notes is a simple hierarchical note pad. You can use it to outline ideas, make "to do" lists, or whatever else might need jotting down in a list, hierarchical or not.

Its keyboard shorcuts were designed to let you edit, navigate and control your outline without taking your hands off the keyboard, so you don't have to interrupt your creative flow and can get on with typing.

WHAT'S NEW
Version 2.0:
  • Intel-compatible.
  • Requires Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger.
  • Deep Notes documents are now indexed by Spotlight.
  • Re-implemented printing:
    • Printing now includes all items regardless of whether or not they are expanded.
    • Long items are wrapped into multiple lines as necessary.
    • Printing font and use of colours can be set in the Preferences.
    • Document is no longer centred on the page.
    • Page setup is now stored for each document.
  • Favourite colours are now shown directly in the toolbar, allowing access with one click.
  • Favourite colours can be used by pressing Command-1, Command-2, etc.
  • Fixed bugs that could occur while editing content and structure.
  • Multiple entries can now be copied to the clipboard, which preserves indentation where possible.
  • Multiple entries can now be cut. This will include children of selected entries.
  • Dragging to a text destination will no longer include all children, only the exact selected items.
  • Changed some keyboard shortcuts to simplify them and to be in line with behaviour on Mac OS X 10.4:
    • The Right and Left arrows now expand and collapse items.
    • Command-Right and Command-Left can be used to indent and outdent, in addition to Tab and Shift-Tab.
    • Command-Option-Right moves the selection into a new item.
    • There is no longer a key for selecting the parent of the selection, since the Left arrow is now used to collapse items. Let me know if you miss this functionality.
  • Using Control-Up and Control-Down now scrolls the selected row into view if necessary.
  • Added optional toolbar items for moving up, down, in and out.
  • Redesigned toolbar icons.
  • Uses the unified title/toolbar look.
REQUIREMENTS
Mac OS X 10.4 or later.

    ****.

FRANSIK  ...basically, I could not agree more with previous poster Crucial.

As far as I am concerned, the issues I have:

    - line breaks should be possible, right now longer lines are simply cut off

    - text edit options are not those offered by other (Cocoa) programs, i.e. spelling or other text formatting options

While I am at it, these functions would greatly improve my use of the software too:

    - print options for cards (Hipster PDA/ GTD like)

    (- check boxes options)

    - (French) localisation

Anyway, I use it daily (but print 6 on one is a waste of paper), and I am glad Mr Sagoo has made this app free (and Tofu as well).

Many thanks indeed, hopefully you soon have some time for us again.  (Version 1.3)

CRUCIAL  Love it and hate it

Love that it is so simple, just a bare bones outliner with no frills, no extraneous features, no cluttered interface. Just the sort of application I like (I use TextEdit instead of Word or any other gargantuan overblown word processor for day to day notes etc.)

    Hate:

Undo deletes the line above the line you are typing so you have to retype two lines.

Occasionally it gets stuck. It wont let you type anything or move items, but it has not crashed. The cure is to quit and restart.

I find all the keyboard short cuts for siblings and children above and below the current line very confusing. Children are sibling's.

    sibling

each of two or more children or offspring having one or both parents in common; a brother or sister.

    child

a son or daughter of any age

I find that parents and children get created in all the wrong places (incest) making the app very unpredictable which makes me lose all confidence in the thing.

Printing. It will print, but you have no control over margins.

I initially found this app as it was created by the same developer who developed Tofu - an absolutely revolutionary text reader. Possibly one of the cleverest pieces of interface design I have seen in years. Its a pity his other apps are not as well crafted.   (Version 1.3)

ALEX KADIS  I like Deep Notes a lot, more so than the expensive Omni Outliner that came pre-installed in my computer.

I just downloaded 1.3 and I like it, with the exception of one of the 'improvements,' Move In and Move Out should be cmd-alt-leftarrow, and cmd-alt-rightarrow instead of tab and shift tab. I find the old keyboard shortcuts quicker and easier. Also the developer seems to have removed cmd-alt-h as the 'Hide Others' shortcut. Fix those, and I'm in love. (with the software, not the developer)

If the developer were to add more features it might get more users? But as it is, I like it, and quite frankly I have no idea what could be added!

    Thank you again!  (Version 1.3)
