The VideoLAN streaming solution includes:
- VLS (VideoLAN Server), which can stream MPEG-1, MPEG-2 and
MPEG-4 files, DVDs, digital satellite channels, digital terrestial
television channels and live videos on the network in unicast or
multicast.
- VLC (initially VideoLAN Client), which can be used as a server to
stream MPEG-1, MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 / DivX files and DVDs on the network
in unicast or multicast; or used as a client to receive, decode and
display MPEG streams under multiple operating systems.
Verion 0.5.6 release notes are not available.
Version 0.5.5 fixes the following:
- fixes the breakage in the DVB input of the previous version
of VLS. Note that this release reverts to the use of libdvb 0.2.2 for
those who want to stream DVB channels.
