PROKOS_J I have been a DiskWarrior fan for many years. In general I like the software, it has fixed various directories on systems that I have run starting at Mac OS 8. So, I have been increasingly frustrated with their update/upgrade system. Here I am, an Alsoft DiskWarrior license holder and a holder of one Apple Snow Leopard license and I still have to pay over $20 just to get a copy of a DiskWarrior DVD that will start up my computer and run the software I own licenses for. From my perspective that disk should cost about $5.00 including the stamp to put in the post. Each time Apple releases a new box, your old disk won't work with it anymore, regardless of the operating system you are running. Obviously this has turned into a profit making scheme for Alsoft. When I bought my license way back when I don't think it was $100 eitherÂ… you can buy an entire operating system for not much more. (Version 4.2)

BUMBLEB They insist on everything happening via that stupid ol' disc. When I purchased it, I had to get that disk. Because I'm in the EU, and they ship it from the US, I was punished by the customs, having to pay a lot extra, due to taxes and import fees. Imagine if I could have just downloaded and burnt the disc myself. You see, without the original disc, you can't upgrade. And even though you have it, the upgrades are often troublesome. Took me three attempts so far, and it won't even boot my Macbook Pro with Snow Leopard, so it is in fact UNUSABLE for me. I just had an ExpressCard fail on me. Does DW even see the disc? No. It therefore can't do jack about it. Same goes for every other disk problem I've had. Hmm, maybe I've had DW be useful, and actually help me with a disk maybe once a few years back. I can't remember. Bottom line: For me, it's been a waste of money. Backup works much better. The secret sauce of this app simply isn't there. It's an illusion. It does very little, and with lots of trouble. (Version 4.2)

ICONZ113 I see a lot of "which should I get" questions when it comes to diskwarrior and drive genius. Drive genius is a good application. I have purchased both drive genius and diskwarrior, in my opinion the 2 best. I only wanted to have one of them installed. After getting familiar with them I've decided to install drive genius and not diskwarrior. I did this because Drive genius can perform other tasks that are useful such as cloning drives, defraging, drive slimming, repartitioning, zero out data, perform verification tests, formatting, cloning, and a few other things. I felt I was better off having this installed over diskwarrior which only performs one function basically. However If my drive ever crapped out, I'm reaching for my disk warrior DVD first. So if you ask me which product is better at recovering your harddisk in a jam, my answer is diskwarrior. If you ask me which of the 2 Id rather have installed Im gonna say drive genius for the other things it can do. But when shiz hits the fan, Diskwarrior all the way. I like having the tool set drive genius offers available to me, if my boot drive crapped out having disk warrior installed wouldn't help me anyway, but when theres an emergency I'm reaching for the disk warrior. so if your looking for something that will bring your HD back from the dead get diskwarrior but if your interested in the large toolset drive genius offers then get DG. if you can only have one or the other get diskwarrior. YORUK I have the same disappointing experience. I updated to DiskWarrior 4.2 as instructed. Unfortunately, the disk does not work; you get a blank screen when you start by holding the C key. I have a brand new MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard (OS 10.6.1). I wrote the DiskWarrior cusotmer service. They say I need an updated boot file because I have a new Mac. The updated boot file can only be obtained on media (no download), which will cost $12.95 plus $8.95 S&H. What an inconvenience and ripoff. I will just use my old DiskWarrior. (Version 4.2)

M85 I've been using this program for over 5 years and love it. Flawless program and flawless updating process... if you bother to pay attention to their instructions. (Version 4.2)

CHILEWILLLYY Snow 'Panther'? Such a CT does not exist. Speaking of non-existence, there's no such thing as an "Intel Powerbook". And for reference, Snow 'Leopard' will not boot/install on a PPC Mac. (Version 4.2)

RPAEGE Update went flawlessly. Easy as pie. No trouble with the updater, just followed the instructions. I have all original DW disks, since they have ALWAYS been required for updates...unless you *cough* borrowed an updated disk from a friend. (Version 4.2)

The newly updated disks I burned DID NOT require the ORIGINAL DISK !!!! This is why I threw it away........... I just kept using the updated disks to burn the next generation disk....... Alsoft is a greedy, user unfriendly company ! They don't give a rat's A__ about their customers. All they want is your money !!! Well I am done with them forever, I hope you enjoy them........... ILGAZ When you end up the updating, it clearly states "Please RETAIN YOUR ORIGINAL CD" (caps mine) on a Window that you have to click OK. What else can they do? Shout over speakers? (Version 4.2)

Obviously you have had a lousy experience and I suspect that nothing said here by anyone will change your mind but for someone who wants nothing to do with Alsoft or DW you seem to be spending a lot of time watching their product. If your hope is that an emotional rant will influence people to side with you against Alsoft I believe you will be disappointed. Alsoft has been using the current updater method for a long time and lots of people have tried to update a previously updated disk unsuccessfully. It has been clear from Alsoft that the original disk must be used to run the updater to produce an updated disk. Perhaps you have been the (un)lucky one that managed to keep updating updated disks without the original disk but somehow I doubt if that is the whole story. To criticize Alsoft for wanting to make money is pretty naive - they are in business to make money. To say they don't care about their customers is narrow minded in my opinion and certainly not my experience with them. (Version 4.2)
