DESCRIPTION

SiteSucker is an application that automatically downloads web sites from the Internet. It does this by copying the site's HTML documents, images, backgrounds, movies, and other files to your local hard drive. Just enter a URL and click a button and SiteSucker can download an entire web site.

SiteSucker can be used to make local copies of your web sites for easy maintenance. SiteSucker can download files unmodified or it can "localize" the files it downloads, allowing you to browse a site off-line.

SiteSucker is donationware (uncrippled shareware). Pay any amount of money SiteSucker is worth to you or use it for free.

WHAT'S NEW
Version 2.2.4:
  • Replaced "//" with "/" in URL paths.
  • No longer add "Unchanged" comment to HTML/CSS.
  • Included both http and https links when downloading a site.
  • Added "Default Encoding" option to the Download Settings.
  • Added 'Append "html" Extension' option to the Download Settings.
  • Removed keyboard shortcut for "Download with SiteSucker" in Services menu.
  • Improved character encoding detection when reading HTML files and Web URLs.
  • Removed Action button from Download Settings window and added its commands to Settings menu.
  • Displayed the size of the download in bytes when progress exceeds 100%.
  • Fixed a bug where downloading multiple sites could reset the level value to zero.
  • Fixed a bug that caused SiteSucker to crash when a http URL was redirected to a mailto URL.
  • Fixed a bug with the "Get All Files in Same Directory" Download Option that could prevent some files in the original directory from being downloaded.

AKROBAT  Well, this used to be my download app of choice when it came to websites. It really was almost perfect.

Tried it out today and for some reason it simply refuses to work. Tried all sorts of sites including my own. "I know" I said to myself, "I'll update it, perhaps my version 2.4.0 is old and no longer works with Leopard".

Unfortunately you can no longer download it and the developer's website is down. Looks like I'll have to switch to BlueCrab; though I'll try SiteCrawler & WebDevil also.

DRG  Is it me? Every update to this program will not download properly using any version of Camino. Firefox yes, Camino no. And it is the only program I have trouble with.

Anyone else have this problem?

DRG  Well, it must be something else that's interfering with the download then, because every time I download, it's a partial one and the file cannot be extracted. Odd, isn't it?

DINH  I'm looking for an application that can download all the files relating to a website for archiving and evaluation.

This is the only application I found that could successfully download my test website.

After evaluating the following applications, here is my ranking for website archiving:

#1 SiteSucker - The only application to successfully download my test site in entirety. Also the cheapest coincidentally!

#2 DeepVacuum - Almost captured the whole site.. But of course missed the backgrounds and other things which I specifically wanted. Second cheapest ($12).

#3 Web Devil - Downloaded some of the site. The browsers seem half-baked for site archiving, its more for downloading galleries of images it seems. It is the most expensive application ($35).

#4 Blue Crab - Buggy, non-intuitive, and unusable per my previous description. Only file captured after trialing it was a cookies file. Second most expensive app ($25).

JOHNNY ROCKET  Unless I'm missing something, Firefox saves the page your on, not the entire site.

File > Save Page As...

there's an option for Web page, complete

but that's just the page, not the entire site.

BOBSTER  I've liked this program from day one, but is there some way to keep it from chewing up the CPU when it is DLing a full website?

BOBSTER  I think I just answered my question: limit the number of connections... hopefully that will solve it.
