APPLE CODER  Have not tired it nor do I have the need. The best Genealogy program already exists called Reunion, look for it.

I understand the need for competition and some people might want other gui controls or features, but Reunion has been doing it for a long time and the "windows world" wants it, but it is only for Mac, so some applications should be the only application for a particular need.

BOB_TM  Reunion is still PPC/Rosetta only and Reunion 9 (which will probably be universal) is still not released. Last update to the Reunion 8 program is abt. 20 months ago. It might be advisable for non-addicted Intel users to consider a another application.

MONDELE  To say that we should limit our choices to what is already available is just plain silly. I own Reunion v. 6. It was a great program, and I'm sure the new versions are nice as well, though the interface doesn't seem to have been updated in a long time. That said, Leister Productions doesn't seem to be too interested in users of old versions. There are several new horses in the race with prices comfortably close to Leister's upgrade price. The most impressive I've seen are Heredis and Mac Family Tree. I'm glad to have choices. Competition may someday encourage Leister to speed up version updates and provide some more attractive options for those who bought a while ago.

Genealogy Pro hasn't impressed me so far as one of the best, but having a whole stable of genealogy programs out there will no doubt encourage improvement and further development.

ANONYMOUS  The ability to import and export GEDCOM files is horrendus. It doesn't work, it say that the men are mothers when exporting and won't recognise dates on importing.

JACK  It's OK but if your seriously into Genealogy then its not the best one out there. A major problem is the inability to correct parentage. I found one of my relatives on the 1901 census and put them in and who I assumed was her mother. On the 1881 census it was revealed thet that was her Step-mother. There was no way to correct this so I had to put the whole line in again. Also if you already have a date in, and then want to put a modifyer on it you have to delete the date and input it again. No big but annoying.

    It is free though.

    ALEXMATHEW  Great FREE app.

    Pro's:

    Compatibility with GEDCOM

User Interface (I like it over MacFamilyTree)

    Fast response to menu/clicks

    Nice charts and editing capabilities

    Cons or Suggestions:

    No HTML output

No Pick list for Names (eg. identical last/first/etc names should be available from a pick-list to avoid spelling errors)

    More options on charts ;-)

    Thanks

CLAIRE  For a free family tree program this is both powerful and flexible. The user interface is a little more complicated than I'd like (or maybe I'm just overlooking something really obvious). The database itself is extensive and extremely customisable, but the real strength is the family tree production, and the ease of manipulating tree layouts.
