OLD_GUY  I always liked this but the latest versions bugs me with a hugh delay when I launch the Onyx. It always happens again and again. After the annoying delay it seems to work.

It happens in both Macbook pro and iMac running OSX10.6X

I would give it 4 stars but this issue is so annoying I give it a 3 star rating.

TITANIUM1  Sorry I don't know why you have this problem at launch... Ne reason for a long delay. Have you try to delete the Preferences file?

MACFOOL  Minimize the "annoying?" less than 10 second delay by selecting Onyx preferences, under Update deselect "Check for update at launch" and under Messages and Log deselect the top two selections.

JAZZICA  Just got 2.1.2 and ran all tasks without error, except for "Delete: Recent items." That hasn't ever worked. But everything else purrs, and the Recent items are easily cleared manually from the Apple menu so it's never bugged me. But it SHOULD work, if the app includes it.

Looks like a stable release. Will try it again over the next week and review it.

I got the update through the app itself. It may not be posted yet.

TITANIUM1  Thanks Jessica. In Snow Leopard, this option doesn't delete the recent items in the Apple menu. I will try to correct that... ;-))

ST00P!D M0NK3Y  That's because Onyx 2.1.1 is for OS 10.6 Snow Leopard only...

You need to download the Leopard version 2.0.5 under "Related Links".

JAZZICA  It's not down - just remove the directories after the last "/". Joel probably changed the website structure. It's still there as http://www.titanium.free.fr/

MINDLESSMISSY  You know what saddens me ... The fact that because I choose to run as root on my mac, programs I like such as Onyx and VLC choose to disallow my running them ...

Good thing I have the previous versions before they were updated to ban root operations ...

But the lockout is appalling ... !

ARCHAEOGEEK  While I don't want to judge quickly, I wonder what makes it so essentiall to you to run as root. It is, in a lot of ways, the equivalent of running Windows as admin, and basically negates pretty much all the security that comes with posix-style permissions. Considering not doing it might be a better option than doing something that is terribly risky for no apparent good reasons; there might be good reasons of course, but I admit I've yet to see a single real good reason to do it on anything; if anything, that OnyX doesn't run for root users is a Good Thing because it can very seriously wreck your computer if you're not sure what you're doing or, equally as bad, if you make a mistake.

MACFOOL  Noticed Onyx updated a help file upon first run.

Could this be the "freeze?"

DORF-THE-MAN  With the new 2.1.1 I am experiencing some delay when I start the program. It freezes for some seconds.

Otherwise it seems to work fine.

My setup: Mac Pro running OS X 10.6.2
