MINDLESSMISSY You know what saddens me ... The fact that because I choose to run as root on my mac, programs I like such as Onyx and VLC choose to disallow my running them ... Good thing I have the previous versions before they were updated to ban root operations ... But the lockout is appalling ... ! (Version 2.1.1)

MACFOOL Noticed Onyx updated a help file upon first run. Could this be the "freeze?" (Version 2.1.1)

DORF-THE-MAN With the new 2.1.1 I am experiencing some delay when I start the program. It freezes for some seconds. Otherwise it seems to work fine. My setup: Mac Pro running OS X 10.6.2 (Version 2.1.1)

JOHN MALIS I have the same problem. It keep freezing every time I start. I gave up eventually. (Version 2.1.1)
| Nov 16 2009 |
ENTITY Unfortunately I can't get the application to run on Snow Leopard (10.6.2). I get the error message: sh: sw_vers: command not found (127) When trying to startup, and: AppleEvent handler failed. (-10000) After clicking through that. I loved older versions before I upgraded to Snow Leopard but can't find a solution for this. (Version 2.1.1)

ST00P!D M0NK3Y I Googled those errors and it does not seem to be anything related to Onyx. Try the Apple support forums. (Version 2.1.1)
| Nov 16 2009 |
ENTITY Onyx is the only app that seems to have this problem, unfortunately. Previous versions haven't had it. Would be happy to fix it if I could find any solution posted, but apparently it's pretty uncommon, whatever it is. (Version 2.1.1)

TITANIUM1 At launch of OnyX (and from a long time), the sw_version command checks the version of Mac OS X. By default, this command is in the System. If errors, I don't know why... Sorry. :-( (Version 2.1.1)
| Nov 24 2009 |
ENTITY This seems to be happening on all 10.6.2 installs that I can find. /usr/bin/sw_vers: /usr/bin/sw_vers: cannot execute binary file If I run /usr/bin/sw_vers without preprending it with sh, though, I get: BuildVersion: 10C540 (Version 2.1.1)

TITANIUM1 Entity, you have update Leopard > Snow Leopard ?? With this solution, there are problems... A clean install is always better. I's perhaps the cause of your problem. (Version 2.1.1)

AV I cant open iSale, HitList, Process or iCal and in Safari i cant open youtube.... so whats gone wrong? Probably a few others things glitching in the background that have yet to fully surface. All this after doing a user cache clean with the standard checkboxes marked - 100% fault of OYNX. Im going to Apple Genuis bar tomorrow and i will see what they say - hopefully they can fix it without a complete reinstall. If not then a complete reinstall is my only option. Onyx is like using a Windoze app. Will wont trust Onyx again. Let this be a warning to others. (Version 2.1.1)

TITANIUM1 The caches are simply files which accelerates some operations. The Cache files are automatically rebuilt. Any cache-files can be removed without risk. Your problems: You have probably errors in the structure of System files. Have you checked your disk before starting the cleanup? Probably notÂ… Please, check and repair it, it's VERY important! You speak of Windoze applicationÂ… ;-) Your first reaction: reinstall the system then you're probably a switcher. . Please, forget your bad reflexes of Windows user. The first reflexe is check the disk!! You have a Apple computer! ;-) (Version 2.1.1)
| Nov 15 2009 |
AV There is nothing wrong with the disk. I used Oynx as per its instructions and it seems to have created an issue..... (Version 2.1.1)

TITANIUM1 For iCal Helper and the 99% CPU problem, it's a know bug of the System!! Go in the /LibraryPreferences/ByHost/ folder of your Home Folder and delete the com.apple.iCal.helper.xxxxxxx.plist file. (the xxxxxxx are a number, the MAC addresse) More info here (2 pages): http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jsp ... 0&tstart=0 (Version 2.1.1)

ST00P!D M0NK3Y Deleting the preference file is an option that's now been given to you twice. Please try it. (Version 2.1.1)
| Nov 16 2009 |
AV STUPID MONKEY - I tried it BEFORE anyone on here suggested it, i did my own research on apple support forums & google before posting here ..... And the apple genius tried it again today, along with other stuff, and it didn't work! The only solution - so far - seems to be a fresh install..... (Version 2.1.1)
| Nov 16 2009 |
ST00P!D M0NK3Y If you re-install Snow Leopard again, it won't change any of your files on the computer... or your accounts, etc... so you won't really be starting over again. You can try just installing Snow Leopard again instead of reformatting the entire computer with Disk Utility and see if that helps. (Version 2.1.1)
| Nov 19 2009 |
ST00P!D M0NK3Y I love the randomness of the smilies. One day the guy with all the positive smilies will have all negatives the next day. Yeah... that's legit. (Version 2.1.1)
| Nov 21 2009 |
AV I reinstalled Snow Leopard and the 10.6.2 Combo update, without full erase, and the iCal Helper 99% cpu error has stopped. I havent tried to use iCal so the issue may just be hidden.... but im happy with that things could be back to normal. The End. (Version 2.1.1)
| Nov 13 2009 |
AV Everything was fine until i used the user cache cleaner function and its caused me a major headache. The OSX was perfect and now i dont know how many issues will come up going forward. After the cache clean I get "iCal helper" cycling at 99% CPU on start up. After forcing quitting it it restarts after 10 mins etc. and when i start iCal itself it comes up with a message saying "iCal upgrading calendars" and never goes beyond that - crashes. This should be a rating of 1 review and it still might be. I appreciate its a free app but i never expected major issues...... (Version 2.1.1)

ST00P!D M0NK3Y This is an isolated incident. iCal still works fine for me. (Version 2.1.1)
| Nov 13 2009 |
AV It might be an isolated incident but it doesnt negate the fact that it messed up MY system. I have nothing geeky or niche about my setup - just a regular home user. Its wiped something to do with the ical and i have no idea why or how to fix it..... i dont want to spend hours reinstalling from scratch and setting up the OSX/Apps exactly how i like them but it looks like i might have to with ical helper kicking in every 30 mins and zapping the cpu.... so frustrating. (Version 2.1.1)
| Nov 14 2009 |
ST00P!D M0NK3Y You don't have to re-install the entire system. You can just re-install iCal. Backup your iCal data and either re-intall it, or try deleting the preferences file. Reformatting should be a last resort. (Version 2.1.1)
| Nov 12 2009 |
JAZZICA I took it through every task it offers. Restart was clean and fast. Onyx is just great. (Version 2.1.1)

FOOBAR1969 As an unabashed computer geek, I love OnyX's vast feature set. If OS X has a preference that can be set, or a maintenance that can be run, most likely OnyX includes it. OnyX is probably not a good choice for non-geeks because it offers too many options, some of which allow you to wreck yourself unexpectedly if you don't understand what you're clicking. BTW, long-time users will be happy to know that v2.1 is now a drag-n-drop install, rather than having to do the whole click click click accept click click authenticate click wait wait click routine. (Version 2.1.1)

JAZZICA John, you might consider uninstalling the app, getting rid of the preferences file in your user/library/preferences folder, com.titanium.OnyX.plist, and then reinstalling. I really can't reproduce the stall you mention; nor can two of my friends who use Onyx. Snow Leopard works differently than Leopard, and, if anything, the launch and execution of scripts should be faster than ever. Respectfully, J (Version 2.1)

JOHN MALIS I like Onyx but it indeed has his flaws. I also experience some lag when launching the app. It freezes for about 20 seconds before it is actually usable. Tried a previous version and this does not have this issue. (Running on MacBook Pro OSX10.6.1) Still like this for some quick tweaks. Although I also like iTweax. It is almost the same as Onyx but with a thinner/sleeker UI. Recommended nevertheless. (Version 2.1)

JAZZICA No 20 second lag here, John, unless you run the script to verify startup volume. In Preferences, under the Advanced Tab, you"ll find "Verify the structure of start-up volume at launch". You have 3 options: Ask, Automatically Verify, and Don't Verify. Joel makes it very clear in the help files that all apps will freeze, and you might see a beach-ball, but just to WAIT, because it's over in about ... 20 seconds. So just go in to preferences and pick Don't Verify. (Version 2.1)
| Nov 7 2009 |
SLIGHTLYCONFUZED Yeah, make sure you uncheck those options in the preferences, or at the very least, press cancel on the first two options that pop up when you first open Onyx. (Version 2.1)
| Nov 7 2009 |
JOHN MALIS It happens when you cancel on both questions. Then it freezes for some seconds. Happens on my Macbook Pro, iMac and friend iMac. Disabling both doesn't help either. On next startup it again locks for some seconds. There is for sure something wrong because previous versions does not have this issue. (Version 2.1)
| Nov 8 2009 |
SLIGHTLYCONFUZED Then this is an issue separate from Onyx that is occurring with your computer, as Onyx starts instantly without any lag or strange freezing on several of the computers I have Snow Leopard installed on. And if it's only a "few seconds", that's not too bad. =P (Version 2.1)
| Nov 8 2009 |
SLIGHTLYCONFUZED By the way, did you upgrade to Snow Leopard or did you do a clean install? (Version 2.1)
| Nov 8 2009 |
JOHN MALIS Blaming it on my setup is easy. This issue is also confirmed by two other friends who both have a iMac with OSX10.6.1 installed. The strange thing is it sometimes is a short freeze and sometimes a 'long' time (read: more then 15 seconds). Is seems to be random. BTW I did a clean install on my Macbook Pro and iMac. Never got any issues whatsoever. Including previous version of Onyx. (Version 2.1)
| Nov 8 2009 |
JPWGIBSON No issues whatsoever on my MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, and iMac. Still also running problem free on my PowerBook G4. (Version 2.1)
| Nov 9 2009 |
OnyX search an update at launch or not?? (Version 2.1)
| Nov 11 2009 |
SCRIVENS Are you sure the hang isn't just OSX waking and connecting an internal or external drive that's gone to sleep? Does it here with any app and it only started with Snow Leopard, even with 'Put Drives to Sleep' turned off. Very annoying and has been the same through all versions of 10.6 - did a complete fresh install of OSX and every app the other day and it still does it so it appears to be something in the system itself. (Version 2.1.1)
