MEMNARCH113  OnyX is a good program. For the low price of $0.00, you too can be fixing up your mac in no time. While many of the scripts in OnyX are handy, several are also run by OS X on its own. Feel free to ignore daily, weekly and monthly tasks (at least in snow leopard). Other then that, it is a good program to keep around your mac. Simple UI and nice customization makes it one of my favorite freeware apps ever. It is worth the time and hard drive space to keep this guy around, just in case your mac starts acting up or something. OnyX is worth the time it takes to download.

BRAINIACD1  I installed OnyX 2.1.3 in Mac OS 10.6.2 over OnyX 2.0.6 which I had from before I upgraded to Snow Leopard and tried to open Onyx. When I was prompted to enter my password, I tried my user password as well as the password for an administrator account (the account I usually use is not an administrator account). Both passwords failed. I tried repairing disk permissions as prompted by the OnyX dialog box, but this did not help. I have tried uninstalling OnyX and deleting the preference file as well, but OnyX still will not accept any of my passwords after I reinstall it.

SHAUN  If you are on 10.5.8 then you need OnyX 2.0.6. OnyX 2.1.3 is for 10.6

JAZZICA  As good as it gets.

All tasks run perfectly, as far as I can tell.

I used it last night, used ALL of the feature list, and everything is OK.

Noticeable speed hit after restart. Programs slow to open, because caches are being rebuilt.

Excellent app.

Thank you, JB!

JAZZICA  ANOTHER deluded sycophant here.

Just about everything works perfect. The one exception is "delete recent items". No big deal, as the "delete items" is in the Apple Menu.

My suggestion: remove that option, and make it easier to do ALL cleaning tasks before shutdown. It's almost like a nag screen... "Restart your computer now!... but it's not necessary and I always hit "close" on the dialogue box to get to the end of the tasks. The "automation" option doesn't allow you to "fine-tune" the cache deletions as does the Cleaning Section, so I think you might add an option in Prefs to not pop-up that screen until the end of the tasks. Unless I missed it and you already did.

As close to perfect as a wrapper for maintenance scripts gets. Thanks again, Joel. Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukah!

AV  Why? We will obviously *never* know for sure but if a bug fixed the 'deleting system cache function' is stated then isnt it a logical assumption to make? Its an admission of guilt - ergo, i was right!! - and i dont care what is written here!!! Anyone who replies to this reply is a deluded sycophant :-)

JAZZICA  A suggestion- Under "system" you might want to NOT clean audio components and Quicktime components, particularly if you have other sound apps beside iTunes. Under "user", don't trash audio units. Under "Internet", don't trash form values. Under "logs", leave the Apple Software log alone, as it makes updates faster. And under "misc", don't check "recent items.

In prefs, make sure you haven't checked the "verify start-up volume"... and don't have it check for updates every day. Under "behavior" in Prefs, when a restart is needed, click "ASK", not do so automatically.

Some of these are by memory so they might be worded differently.

Back to the app, not in Prefs: under "Maintenance/Rebuild", don't check display of folder contents or spotlight index.

This speeds up the app considerably and is safer. RTFM and remember it's still Unix!

Happy Hanukah, Merry Christmas.
