DESCRIPTION
Safari Bookmark Exporter is designed to do one thing and do it well: export bookmarks from Safari (now isn't that intuitive?). You simply launch the application, click "Analyze Bookmarks", select your desired browser, click "Export Bookmarks", and then save the bookmark file to the desired location. Safari Bookmark Exporter is also smart enough to know where the default location of the bookmark files are, so you don't need to figure that out in order to have your desired browser recognize your new set of bookmarks. Safari Bookmark Exporter does NOT currently support importing bookmarks from other browsers TO Safari. Safari Bookmark Exporter supports the following browsers: Chimera/Camino (including the latest nightlies), Mozilla, Phoenix/Firebird/Firefox, Netscape, OmniWeb (any version including the latest betas of version 5), IE, iCab, and Opera (including the recently released 8.0 beta).
WHAT'S NEW
Version 1.1:
- added support for the XBEL bookmark file format
- added support for Opera 8's bookmark file location
- SBE now warns the user to quit browsers before exporting bookmarks to them
- SBE now allows users to automatically replace bookmark files -- save panels no longer pop up, so USE THIS FEATURE AT YOUR OWN RISK
- fixes problem where initiating a search for bookmarks in Firefox after exporting bookmarks caused a crash
- SBE now allows exporting to multiple bookmark formats in one fell swoop
REQUIREMENTS
Mac OS X 10.2 or later, Safari.

WALTER SBE did a good job sending the Safari bookmarks over to Firefox. Thanks for developing it. 1. There shd be a way for the exporting to be done so that the receiving browser doesn't have its existing bookmarks erased. "Frednow"'s post at Mozillazine gave good advice on how to do this. 2. After the type of merging of bookmarks described in 1., it wd be nice if there were a purge function as well that weeded out redundant bookmarks. 3. The first menu that comes up is a bit confusing. Too many choices where it's not clear how they will interact. Thanks. / Walter (Version 1.1)

BY Re. your request for merge function -- this is a feature I wished for and have used via a program I registered called BookIt (v3.5) (important note - in the demo version, you can resort, and merge bookmarks to see results, but no results are saved to your browsers till you register) However, it has not been updated yet for latest Tiger/Safari 201 which has changed the Safari bookmark file format from plain xml (text) to the Apple binary format... JONATHAN Safari is the best bowser. This program lets us dabble with others such as Firefox that are beginning to reach Safari's elegance and speed. A perfectly executed program that allows Safari users to stay with Safari, without cutting off their awareness and knowledge of the imitators. What might dethrone Safari: 1) A Netscape with simple downloads, a toolbar search, real tabbed browsing (command or option click Expansion), and a new classic interface. 2) A Firefox with simple downloads, a Netscape classic interface (not the ugly one you can already get), real tabbed browsing (command or option click Expansion), a better engine (messes up a lot of basic html). {Props to plug-in developers for Firefox (but make some for Safari again, please).}

BRAD MARTIN KUDOS to Simone Manganelli for an excellent, simple solution to a small but significant flaw in Safari's "simple" interface!! (Version 1.1)

UMATT Wow! The fast fix I have ever done. 4 clicks and less than 1 minute. That also included the down load. (Version 1.1)

ANONYMOUS That was extraordinarily simple. I wish I had known about this program a long time ago. Apple should definitely consider bundling this program with the OS. It took a grand total of three clicks to import my bookmarks into my other browsers. Heck, the program even knew where to send them without me having to search. This program is the true definition of ease-of-use. (Version 1.1)
