DESCRIPTION
OmniGraffle Pro helps you draw beautiful diagrams, family trees, flow charts, org charts, layouts, and (mathematically speaking) any other directed or non-directed graphs. We've had people use Graffle to plan plotlines for a story, make an overview of an operating system, show the evolution of computers, and even show how diseases can spread in a closed population. If you want to organize your thoughts, your projects, or even your friends graphically using boxes and lines, OmniGraffle is your tool.
OmiGraffle Professional has all of the great features in 3.0, plus a powerful toolset for advanced document creation and editing options. For the pro user who's looking for an in-depth diagramming application that's still priced below the competition, you've come to the right place.

RUBAIYAT This looks really interesting. I am looking at it as a possible place to do my website wireframing. Is anyone using it for this and can you comment on how well it works? (Version 5.2.1)

BLUESTAR I use it for site wireframing all the time. It's great! (Version 5.2.2 beta 1)

ABUGIRGES This is a very good app. What makes it problematic is when you have to work in a mixed environment where people use MS Visio. The exporting do Visio does not correctly work in a couple of instances so that you can never be sure that the document shows the same as before. You need to manually check everthing before sending it out. This should be improved... please!! Apart from that OmniGraffle does a great job when it comes to any kind of concept specification. DONMONTALVO Version 5.2 seems to do a better job exporting Visio than before. At least from the two documents I share with my buddies. I guess we'll see as we hit more documents.

I just tried to save my OmniGraffle Pro (OGP) 5.1rc1 (v.137.6.0.106738) document with the document window resized bigger than the actual document (about 1 inch to each side), then I quit application, re-opened saved document, and it opened with the same window size as it was saved in the previous session. No problems. (Version 5.1rc1)

XPLICIT You seem very smart. Maybe that's because they fixed it in the version you use? (Version 5.1)

BLUESTAR Can others confirms that this has been fixed in 5.1.1.-rc-1 ? (Version 5.1.1rc1)

BLUESTAR Yes, confirmed the window placement remembering issue has been fixed. (Version 5.1.1rc1)

BLUESTAR A major issue is still not fixed. See my comment below. (Version 5.1 beta 2)

BLUESTAR This is generally a nice app. BUT! A small thing really annoys the hell out of me and the developers are not listening. I still don't see a fix in the list of issues fixed that corrects the survival of a window's size setting after a quit and re-launch. i.e., if one sets the window's size to be larger that the document (which I prefer for working with docs) upon relaunch and re-open the window boundaries revert to a default, which is the document's boundaries. This is still working in 4.1.2 and NOT after that. (Version 5.0.1)

NILS3000 I have the same problem here and support told me, that is caused by a two monitors setup. Not only for that reason I am quite disappointed and I am definitively not going to upgrade to 5 (pro). (Version 5.0.2 rc 1)

Would be nice if you actually gave the ability to refresh the trial license with upgraded versions. I tried a copy of a previous version a while ago and have not been able to try any new versions of it ever since because I now receive "Your trial has expired" message so although the previous versions did not meet my requirements, I now no longer have the ability to see whether any future versions of Omnigraffle have the ability to swing me. I understand you have to try prevent people reusing trials but there are ways to handle this like refreshing the license on upgrading the version for example, or simply putting an expiry on the beta license so it can't be used past a certain date (like Merlin do - download a copy of their software, you might be able to learn a better method of handling this). I'll try the product again when you manage to resolve the licensing issues for trials, until then I'll continue using my Visio, because I can't see whether later versions are capable of matching my requirements. JKT Fwiw, if you go to the OmniGroup store, you can download free 24 hour licences for any of their apps that provide you with full functionality. The only limitation is that you can't download licences within 48 hours of each other. (Version 5.0.1 beta 5)

LEONARDODV My problem with this upgrade is that they removed the GUI Stencil, which is a deal breaker for me as a GUI designer. I use it a lot to form quick GUI layouts for my clients. (Version 5.0.1 beta 3)

FROBOZZ You can always create your own stencils in OmniGraffle. As a UI designer, I created my own. In fact, you could probably take the old stencil from OmniGraffle 4.x and copy-and-paste it into a new stencil in 5.x. Stencils are just small vector documents like any other OmniGraffle document-- except they have only one canvas. (Version 5.0.1)

JONO I hear you! I have emailed them about this a couple of times. For a professional application, it is highly distressing to have to resize all of your open windows when you quite the app and start it again. Unacceptable. (Version 5.0.1 beta 1)

OMNIGROUP Thanks for your feedback on our pricing! We try to price our products very competitively, and we believe that if you look at the alternatives in the same space (such as Visio and ConceptDraw) you'll find that our product is priced very reasonably. (And most of our customers strongly prefer it to those alternatives!) I hope that you’ll take a second look at all the new features in OmniGraffle 5—it’s a very substantial upgrade. But you don’t have to take my word for it, we offer a two-week free trial (with full access to all features). -Ethan Schoonover, The Omni Group (Version 5.0)

D9 Ethan, I can appreciate your comments. As I stated in an earlier post, it's certainly with OmniGroup's right to price their software as they deem appropriate. However, I'd contend that your remarks are misguided towards the majority of the complaining posts. These are not potential OmniGraffle Pro users but current users who feel the price of upgrading their current version to 5 is not justified by the price. We are well aware of the incredible ease and features of OGP, but we do not carry that same admiration for version 5 at the current upgrade price. Once again, OmniGroup is obviously entitled to pursue a policy that best suits their business. I just think a lot of us current users feel this policy is not in our best interest. Thanks for "listening". (Version 5.0)

ESPIRIDION Indeed it's an interesting way of treating loyal customers. I've already spent some money on OGP, in addition to a few upgrades. I don't recall ever being disappointed by an Omni upgrade fee as I am with this one, and I have purchased most of their software as well as upgrades in the past 7 years or so. (Version 5.0)

DIGGINESTDOGG I am a long-time user of OG product (Focus, Graffle, Outliner)--Outliner and Graffle through several versions including upgrading to pro from the standard versions that came with my Mac 3 or 4 years ago. But having paid the upgrade to 4 Pro only a year ago it seems I am balking at the stratospheric price of this one. The upgrade is twice as expensive as it needs to be for a great app I don't use daily. For example: Illustrator, clearly 5 times the app OmiGraffle Pro is, is $199 to upgrade from CS2 to CS3--5x the app but 2.5x the cost to upgrade. As I said--the OG 5 upgrade costs twice what it should cost. This is where I stop patronizing Omni products I think. I'll stay on 4 and start evaluating a migration strategy and course. (Version 5.0)

JUDDBERT I'm afraid I have to agree with Espiridion. I really cannot see anything in OGP version 5 that offers an incentive to upgrade from version 4. At $25 to $30 perhaps, but $75 - sorry, not interested. Like digginestdogg, I purchased OG Pro just a year ago and saw what; one minor upgrade? Sorry Omnipeople, but this is not the way to treat loyal customers - not if you want to keep them that is. I'll stick with version 4, and try to ignore the slightly tarnished view I now hold of OmniGroup. (Version 5.0)

ZEITKIND Well, I think most v4 users never missed the features regarding Visio, so they don't see the "value" or v5. I tested OG several times in the past, but the missing support for Visio was just a killer for me. Now I consider buying it and I'm glad to see the Visio support. I bought ConceptDraw many years ago, but their price politic was far worse and the program kept crashing for me, so the ability to switch to OG is fine for me. (Version 5.0)
| Apr 7 2008 |
KAIDOH Same for me: I used OG Pro for years and I really like it. The new features would be appreciated. But every user always only needs a subset of the new stuff (for me Visio support is absolutely unimportant while shared layers sound very promising). I understand that Omni wants to earn money with their products, but 80 $ for an upgrade is too steep for my budget and it's perceived benefit (as it is for OmniFocus btw). I guess I'll be happy keeping version 4 for quite a while and hope for a discount some day. (Version 5.0)

SILVERDR Thank you for your comment and explanations. Unfortunately they are not very cogent for long time users of your products. The changes in your pricing policy made me STOP upgrading. Sorry - I won't pay for an upgrade this much. I paid already for several "Pro" versions and upgrades in the past but with this move you made a "stop" for me. And judging by the comments (not only) here - I am not the only one thinking this way. Sure - it is your business and your choice but with the latest version's pricing schemes you stopped being a rare pearl of the software companies with great software and great pricing. This image is more and more lost now. As someone already mentioned - now we only need a competitive product to fully look away from you. (Version 5.0.1)
