DESCRIPTION

EasyFind is an alternative to or supplement of Spotlight and finds files, folders or contents in any file without the need for indexing. This is especially useful if you are tired of slow or impossible indexing, outdated or corrupted indices or if you are just looking for features missing in the Finder or Spotlight.

Highlights:

  • Boolean operators, wildcards, phrases
  • Extended Boolean operators, similar to DEVONthink and DEVONagent
  • Immediate searches, no indexing required
  • Finds invisible files and files inside packages (something Spotlight doesn't do)
  • Displays the location of each file in a separate column
  • Previews files using Quick Look (Mac OS X 10.5 or later)
  • Provides contextual menus and services
  • Supports drag-and-drop
  • Very responsive, thanks to multithreading
  • Uses very little memory
WHAT'S NEW
Version 4.5:
  • NEW Optional toolbar.
  • NEW Spacebar toggles QuickLook HUD panel (Mac OS X 10.5 ‘Leopard’ or later).
  • NEW Search modes ‘Boolean’ and ‘Wildcards’ combined, syntax is compatible to DEVONagent 2.x and DEVONthink 2.x.
  • NEW Occurrences in file and folder names are highlighted.
  • NEW Comparison options ‘Ignore Umlauts’ and ‘Fuzzy’ (only avail- able for ‘Boolean+Wildcards’ search mode).
  • Improved ‘Created’ and ‘Modified’ columns are resizable and display as much information as possible (like Apple Mail).
  • Improved Width of ‘Where’ and ‘Name’ columns (almost) unlimited.
  • Improved User-defined folder is now ‘~/Library/Application Support/ EasyFind/’, an existing folder is automatically moved to the new location.
  • Improved Searching only for files accepts packages (e.g. .rtfd) again.
  • Improved Sorting of the results.
  • Improved Minor interface changes.
  • Improved Performance.
  • Improved German localization.
  • Fixed Support for DEVONthink Pro.
  • Fixed Minor bugs and glitches.
    REQUIREMENTS
Mac OS X 10.4 or later.

FORMICA  This is a very nice little app. However, I really wish it offered the option of placing some kind of icon in the menu bar that I could use to start it up quickly and easily, instead of using up valuable space in the Dock. Also, it would be nice to have the option to adjust font size because it uses a tiny font.

CASTLE ROSE  I use QuickSilver to quickly launch EasyFind or any application. It's one of the greatest aids to the Mac OS. Of course windows has nothing like it.

WADE SMITH  Seems to be a bug- several reports, along with mine right now, that 4.5 does not work with 10.4.11 - no window opens, although the app does boot, apparently. FWIW, I've also had a real problem with EasyFind when it finds a long list of items- it hangs and I have to force-quit it.

THUS.SPAKE.Z  Been using EasyFind for several years now, with no issues. It's always worked beautifully and reliably for me; this latest version is no exception.... no problems at all on my MacBook Pro Intel core 2 duo w/Leopard 10.5.7.

I use it to find and delete every file of software that I want to get rid of. Works far more reliably than any of the app deletion software. In my experience, none of them always finds every file of software that I want to delete. I've tried most every file deletion app and after using them I've searched for more files with EasyFind and usually it comes up with several or many files that the others have missed.

    EasyFind is so, so good.

A big thank you to Devon (a really fine software company) for creating this gem and offering it free of charge. .

DPRB  Easy Find 4.5 does not appear to work. It will not open a window. Running OS 10.4.11 on Power PC Powerbook. Am I doing something wrong? I have gone back to V4.

STEVEN GOODHEART  Wow, great update. Love the new functionality, especially the Boolean and Wildcards feature, which are like those in DevonThink and DEVONagent. Easy to use, speedy, customizable -- and free!

LITLJOHN  Easyfind 4.5 starts up fine on my G4 800X2 running OS X 10.4.11 but it won't open a window - I've restarted, repaired permissions, and re-downloaded and reinstalled - to no avail.

MACTECHHEAD  This new version is a vast improvement over the last version. A couple more tweaks and this would be pure perfection for me.

The new search string highlighted in color is nice but would be better if we could control the color option though. I would have preferred using a dark red instead of a bright blue.

The list view is greatly improved with the ability to move the columns and resize them but it would be even nicer if we could control those columns by turning off the ones we don't need. I only like to know the name, size and location of what I was searching for.

And I would have preferred to see my searches sizes shown in megabytes not in kilobytes. An option to turn toggle either MB's or KB's would be nice.

All in all, no complaints. Some minor tweaks and this would be the perfect search tool for me. But as it is now, I will continue to use my own home-made Realbasic program I compiled instead which has my own features albeit in a far bigger bloated program.

Thanks for the great effort in improving this all the same.

MRFANCYPANTZ  I mainly search for image files on my computer, it would be great if instead of a list view, I could see my search results as thumbnails.
