JOHN VERITY  This is a superb program, always rock-solid and full of features and flexibility. My only complaint is that its supplier does not provide enough information about how to use all those features. I am thinking primarily of the many audio effects and filters that come with the program, or that can be obtained elsewhere. Some of these, like gain and reverb, are self-explanatory, but others - Side Chain Limiter? RogerBeep? - are mystifying to some of us. Several effects have 3, 4, even a dozen parameters that can be adjusted, but there's no advice or help provided about where these effects might prove useful or how to use the parameters most effectively. Yes, I can imagine there are experienced audio engineers and recording enthusiasts who "get" these effects at first glance, but the rest of us can only diddle and diddle again and hope for the best. Or, as I do, ignore most of the effects. A short, well-written primer on audio processing, or whatever the proper term is, would be most appreciated.

Rogue Amoeba's companion program, the Fission audio editor, is another gem - clean interface, able to handle the largest (well, my largest) files, stable. Highly recommended.

DANIEL PAGE  Excellent program. Very easy to use, and good feature set. Ability to use AU effects is great, I can run a mastering plugin in realtime to get the levels nice and high. I use the program to record my student's guitar lessons, and then I email them the file right after the lesson. Using AAC encoding to 16kbps mono, I have manageable file sizes, plus using the AU effects I can get excellent compressed audio quality. If I screw up, accidentaly recording too long, I can click a button to open the file in an audio editor (for me, Fission), to edit the file and get it right. Rogue Amoeba make some of the most useful little audio applications out there.

As I understand, the big competing program is Wiretap Studio. That is a good program too, but I feel that Audio Hijack is a little bit more lightweight, and very useful for when you need to have the program encode and record everything in realtime. You would want wiretap studio if you wanted to be able to record a "dry" version, which you could edit later. That could certainly be useful in certain cases, but for my needs, I set up an Audio Hijack preset with all the effect settings just right, and then I don't need to edit anything after the fact, and the file can be in my student's email inbox before they get home from their lesson. Really priceless stuff!

STEVEN GOODHEART  Huzzah! Full Snow Leopard compatibility and Instant Hijacking is back!

This is one my favorite programs, and one of its simplest built-in features -- the 10-Band EQ that you can add to any program you hijack -- adds so much richness and depth to the the music I play in iTunes, or from LastFM in my browser. YMMV, but I found AudioHijack's built-in EQ (which has pre-sets) to be every bit as good as SRS iWow iTunes audio enhancer plug-in and it has much less of a performance hit.

This is a five-star program with excellent tech support and at a great price. Can't recommend it enough.

PAT320  I run tiger, and since severals version (2.7, 2.8 don't remember exactly), AHJ crashed every time when quiting, after any hijack sessions. Irritating!

Don't know why, but I guess it is since leopard compatibility?

This new 2.9 doesn't crash anymore, so I'm an happy user again!

JCRAIG  I've been using this app for at least a couple of years now, and I love it. Mostly use for recording my weekly live internet radio shows, and posting the files as podcasts, but it also comes in handy for ripping DVD audio, audio from Flash-based players embedded in websites... you name it, AHP records it.

AVIDMCUSER  Agreed! Rogue Amoeba Rocks! I have purchased Audio Hijack Pro as well as Nicecast. Both very useful with many great features and superbly crafted. Although I am still having some issues with Snow Leopard 10.6.1 with various apps, I am hoping an update from Apple will resolve any crackeling I am getting through 'pitch' filter using external iSight mic input.

Just curious, this update is listed for the 21 Oct. but I have had this version for some time now self updated. Is it a different build?
