MONTY LEE I've been a Cocktail user for some time, and upgraded when Leopard came out. I've been using it occasionally and had not trouble. About a month ago I setup the Pilot on both my laptop and desktop (ran Friday night). The defaults for the Scheduler were used, which included clear cache, repair permissions, and rotate logs, then reboot. About the same time Apple's 10.5.7 update came out. All I can say is that both computers started having major problems. Microsoft Office 2008 quit running because of permission problems. Several Apple programs (eg. Keynote, Preview) would not allow me to save any file, old or new, because I did not have permissions. No restore from Time Machine worked. A 10.5.7 Combo Update would solve the problem with reinstall of Office. Then it would happen again. After 2 weeks of testing and reinstalls, I had the laptop running fine for a week. I was using it Friday for business without any issues. On Saturday I tried to use the laptop and everything was corrupted again. The only program that ran that night (I forgot to disable it) was Cocktail. The logs show that it was the only program that ran. I ended up doing an Erase and Install of Leopard and then restored my home folder items and re-installed applications EXCEPT COCKTAIL. Needless to say that now for 4 weeks I've had no problems at all. I cannot 100% pinpoint Cocktail as it could have been an interaction Cocktail had with some other program. I do know that the problem occurred on two machines, and always the next day after Cocktail had run. Once Cocktail was removed, no problems have resurfaced. Tech Support from Microsoft, Apple, and Mac Forums have all said that Cocktail is not necessary and can cause problems. I make no claims other than without Cocktail my system is running great! KOBALT Interesting story. I have no shares in the dev's company, but would like to mention that on my MacBookPro running 10.5.7 and Cocktail every night, I have had zero issues. Mind you, I am a firm believer in not using any Micro$oftware ... (Version 4.4)

WALRUSCP No problems for me, and I run the pilot every week and also use iWork and M$ Office apps. I would contact the dev (Maintain) about your issues, as they do not seem to be commonplace. (Version 4.4)

MONTY LEE I understand others have no problems, and I did not until 10.5.8 and/or any other Apple System updates on my MacPro and MacBook, so I realize it could be an interaction with other programs. I run no haxies so it had to be some commercial/shareware program combined with Cocktail. I did contact the developer and forward the logs, discussion support, and other information. He said to uninstall Cocktail and repair permissions from the MacOS disc. I choose to do a new install of the system instead, which erased Cocktail. I have not yet re-installed Cocktail (out of fear) so cannot unequivocally state that it was the sole problem, which I state in my review. (Version 4.4)

MACMAN8 I want to thank the developers of this application for not forgetting Tiger users and throwing us aside. Other developers have simply ignored those of us that chose to remain with Tiger, instead of moving up to Leopard, and they never bother to update their programs for our operating system. It is refreshing to know that a developer still cares about our needs as well. I just want to thank you for your efforts, and the fact that you still update Cocktail for Tiger. Your efforts are much appreciated, and "IF" I make a jump to "Snow Leopard" when it arrives, I'll be looking for Cocktail to take care of my Mac. (Version 4.3.4)

CHESHIRE The license from MacUpdate Promo Bundle is not valid. Life-time free upgrade? I doubt. Use other alternatives rather than this untrustworthy one. (Version 4.3.3)

MISHA At the time Cocktail was in the MacUpdate bundle (2 years ago?) I don't believe the developer had started offering life-time free upgrades. Customers who purchased Cocktail from us as part of our 24-hour Promo in December definitely get free updates for life. (Version 4.3.3)

I'm happy about this coincidence, because the software does a great job and it's very easy to use, especially I've you are a Linux user and want an easy way to access some unix functions. CYBORG9 My serial code for Cocktail, which worked since I acquired Cocktail in a MacUpdate bundle some time ago is not accepted for this latest version. Must owners of previous versions repurchase Cocktail to use the latest edition? (Version 4.3.2)

ERIC WOEHLER The software claims to be able to, " to clear potentially harmful files such as most common trojans or other files that may harm your system in any way" but I can't find the settings to do so - is it done behind the scenes? I can't find the panel with the relevant settings. Am I missing something here? Can someone help me pls? Thanks (Version 4.3)

MAINTAIN This feature is located in Files -> Caches -> Options. If the "Potentially harmful files" option is enabled, Cocktail will search for trojans and other harmful files every time it will clear System caches (manually or using scheduler). (Version 4.3)

MACMAN8 I want to thank the developer for his response to my question. It's nice to know that he cares and is interested in our concerns. I greatly appreciate the efforts and fine products of those like this developer, producing quality products for Mac users everywhere. Thanks again. (Version 4.2)

MACMAN8 I have used Cocktail, LLC, Mac HelpMate, and OnyX on my Mac. I do like Cocktail; however, the one advantage to LLC is that all updates are "backward compatible" to both Tiger and Panther. I have chosen, for the moment, not to upgrade to Leopard, and still enjoy all of the improvements in LLC, as a Tiger user. Cocktail and OnyX do not offer improvements to their Tiger applications, which are separate from their Leopard applications. I just wish more would follow LLC's example and offer an application which includes users of both Leopard and Tiger. (Version 4.2)

JM4 Has support for us 10.4 users been thrown out the window? No new updates or features that 10.5 is basking in. I like Cocktail, but not all of us are able to purchase new Macs, as much as I would love to, to run all the newest and greatest stuff. (Version 4.2)
