DESCRIPTION
BZFlag... Tanked. Massively multiplayer networked tank-shooting game plays like a cross between 'Battlezone' and 'Tank Battle'. Players drive around an arena and blast other enemy tanks. The 3D is much enhanced from BattleZone in terms of looks and gamplay (features a multi-tiered battle arena). Here the tanks can jump. Tanks can enhance armaments or gain new fighting abilities by capturing 'power-up' flags littered around the playing field. Simple premise that rapidly becomes addicitive. Good fun.

BEZIERBOY  Version 2.0.10 is a Universal Binary and runs great on my Intel Core 2 Duo PowerBook under 10.5.8 Leopard (I'll repost a comment when I get Snow Leopard.)

This game keeps getting better over time, with significantly improved graphics being the big step up in version 2.0. You won't mistake it for Unreal Tournament III, but a good description of it would be "Quake 3 with tanks, tons of maps and cool powerups, and a very active server and development community".

A seriously fun way to waste time. Note that you need net access, this is a multiplayer-only game.

A-DELUSION  Now available as an unofficial x86 Intel Macintosh Binary http://eidotter.de/~alexx/bzflag/

This is not a universal binary, and will only work on an Intel Mac. BZFlag 2.0.8

THREEDEE912  This game is simple and fun, just a multiplayertank shooter. You run over flags to get powerups, anything from being able to walk thru walls, to rocket launchers, and even a laser. The game controls are simple, but some of the more advanced commands and controls are difficult to use, because there is almost no documentation.

MOOSE  Nice multi player game - tried it in the office and at home - works fine. Graphics is fine also - one of the best pieces of gaming software i've ever got.

    High addiction potential ;-)

As i can say to trouble starting and running the app the more trash and hacks an OS includes the unstabler will it be... and BZFlag wants a stable system...

BOBLEAU  When i try to open the game, the icon bounces in my dock a few times and then dissapears. I have tried everything i can think of.

I am running a powerbook G4, macOS 10.2.8 and ive got a fairly reasonable graphics card.

ANONYMOUS  Your problem isn't this application, it might be that you are running a processor quite slow for OS X and a graphics intensive game. Try running only BZFlag by itself. If that doesn't work, downgrade to OS 9 for a modest performance boost.

ANDREAS  I had not exat the same problem, but maybe it helps:

My monitor gots black and says "to high screenres".

I changed the Res in the config.cfg form over 2000x1200 to 1024x768 with Textedit (File is in Application Support).

I dont now why BZFLAG has so big default screensize.

ANONYMOUS  With its 2.0 release, BZFlag offers a solid implementation of its basic premise. The graphics now look very impressive, networking is fast and there are a range of little features to play with. The game plays well across both a local network or the internet. It is strictly a multiplayer game and never tries to be more than a shoot-'em-up. But, once you figure out the settings, it's good clean fun.

DENNIS  I downloaded 2.0 twice yesterday. I cannot get it to work either. I launch the application and get a blank screen, it appears that the setup and option menus and active, but I can't see anything so it is pointless.

This is really dumb. Someone should have beta tested the Mac OS X version before allowing it to be released.

ANONYMOUS  Anybody else having trouble getting 2.0 to start? I get a window, then a blank screen and resolution switch, then the resolution switches back and bzflag quits. no "unexpected quit" message or anything of the sort.

ME163  Seems to be a problem with ATI cards maybe? I am having the same problem on my PowerBook G4 1.5, 10.3.7. It looks like the program attempts to set the screen to a display mode (resolution/refresh/color) that the machine doesn't support.

DAVE  I have a feeling that the program is using a screen refresh rate not supported by some monitors. When I run Bzflag ver 2, i beleive is loading a running but just not visible (black screen). I am not sure how to fix it.
