MIROSLAVH  iClip is a very good product: I probably never will change. Today, I bought the last MacUpdate promo bundle, with a competitor of iClips, but I don't change in any case.

I purpose to the author to introduce his product to the futur big bundle... after some days, this is more than 13 000 buyers!!!

(I wrote this comment by mistake in the CuteClip sorry for author of iClip: his product is, IMHO, better)

EASER  Okay, the site seems to be up and running again. Must have been a fluke.

EASER  I actually found V. 4 to be helpful in reduced eye strain. I agree, it has probably more eye candy than is necessary, but I compared my use of this with V. 3, and V. 4 gives me less fatigue. (My experience only, I'm sure.) More disconcerting is that the link to the developer page appears to be down. That's a shame, as I honestly think this program had more versatility than any of the other programs of this kind that are out there. I had hoped to eventually see the ability to double-click in order to paste and for the ability to enlarge the clip frames manually so as to see more of what's in the clip. (The preview is helpful, nonetheless.) I also know many of you are interested in the text formatting issues. But V. 4 has at least been stable on my system (10.5.6); for that matter, V. 3 worked just fine as well.

I hope the developer either gets back into working on this program or sells it to someone who is willing to do this.

SWEETBLUE  iClip 4 was billed and pushed two years ago as a very progressive, innovative piece of software with a first-rate GUI. That was two years ago. And Computer Years are like Double-Dog Years. Just as a bench mark, the last update to this program was the same month as Steve Jobs' iPhone keynote address. Moreover, like all X.0 software I've ever encountered, iClip 4 possessed several bugs in need of attention. Waaaay back then.

In the two years since -- NOTHING. Not even a minor tweak to fix even one bug. Zero. Zilch. Nathan. Not even the theme to THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE UGLY. Silencio.

Part of investing in a piece of software is investing in the DEVELOPMENT of the software. Software is not a static product; it's an evolving, fluid product. Apple and Adobe are leading examples: minor updates fix bugs, implement improved functionality and often simply keep the software fresh. Major updates cost money, justified ostensibly because a) it's the next-best thing and b) the customer trusts the software company to keep the software in repair.

Thus, aside from iClip 4's issues with loading slowly, copying slowly, pasting slowly, etc., it's fallen woefully behind the very platform it's supposed to compliment. A little OSX update known as LEOPARD since implemented a nifty desktop management feature called Spaces. Guess what -- old man river iClip 4 doesn't work with Spaces. How could it? Its Developer(s) left the building with Elvis. Seriously, the developer even lists part of "new features" as being a Universal Binary. That's like rocking your 3rd Grade Class Photo as your profile pic on FaceBook.

I understand the fact that people "move on" in life; perhaps the developer(s) bounced to Bali and mix Mai Tais for a living now. Maybe they're supercool CIA ops. Whatever their new bag, the moral (yeah, I said it) thing to do is --

Stop charging for a product that you are no longer maintaining. Because buying software ain't like buying a cheeseburger.

CSABORIO  This is by far, one of the best reviews I have ever read on MacUpdate. Your points are so damn valid, they are scary ;) Thanks for taking the time to write your opinion, I think you are right on target.

SWEETBLUE  @CSABORIO,

Thanks for the thanks. Now let's just hope that the developer, by some miracle, grows ears.

CASTLE ROSE  I have been using this product since v3. True there were a few bugs in v3. Version 4 has been ROCK SOLID. I haven't had a single problem with it since the day it cam out. I'm Running OS 10.4.11 so maybe there are bugs with Leopard. With Tiger there has been no need for an update at all.

PASTOR G  I've used iClip since its early days. It is getting long in the tooth in my opinion and is slow when it pastes directly to an application. (I've found that pasting to the clipboard works well but isn't ideal since the app offers to paste directly.)

Recently, I had a problem with iClip quitting on start up. I sent a support message before retiring for the night and the next morning I had a helpful response.

I like most long time users would like to see an update to this application with faster pasting, stronger inline viewing of bin content, the ability to back up clip sets, and stability enhancements.

Having tried many others I still prefer iClip and would readily pay for a reasonably priced upgrade with genuine enhancements, i.e. new features that add functionality not just a new interface.

PORCUSTAL  Not going to review the current version because I don't want to download it. My version of 3.5.2 works super great (5stars*), but i'm not at all into the new version's graphical look, and it seems its become more bloated with glammor and glitz. Which simply isn't the purpose of this type of app.

BIGCLOITS  After over two years of regular usage of first v3 and v4 since its release, I am finally abandoning iClip, and I'm not in a good mood about it. My major complaint is that it is too slow: I am tired of waiting for its glitzy interface to respond to my requests, and sick of it taking as long to launch as about six other applications combined.

iClip 4 is certainly not horrible, but it's far from excellent, and there's really no excuse for that. It certainly could be excellent.

As other reviewers here have commented in the last few months, the developer seems to have abandoned the product. Optimizations and bug fixes are needed, but there's no sign of active development, and the only responses I've received to about three different inquiries have been slow and a touch defensive and disinterested -- the "no one else has reported that" school of tech support. Meh.

BORUCH  Don't buy this application as it appears to have been abandoned by the developer who has moved on to bigger and more prosperous endeavors (macheist and other projects). It's very buggy! No updates in almost a year which has forced me to cease using the application. I'm rather upset considering that I paid to update from the previous edition of this software and all I get in the end is nothing :(

ZOIDBERG  Absolutely loved this program when I first got it -- made my workday all-around easier. Happily paid the shareware fee.

I'd give it five stars under Tiger and zero under Leopard. It just won't work under Leopard (currently running 10.5.3 as I write this).

What's worse, no updates to the program seem to be forthcoming (the last update was January 2007), and no updates of the company website since around that time. Even their blog is a single entry that just says "TEST" on January 2, 2007.

Oh, well. I'll keep looking for a replacement.

BOBZOZUS  I am troubled by your comments. I am sorry that you are having so much difficulty getting IClips to work under Leopard- and have not had success in getting Inventive Customer support to help you out. Unfortunately, I can not say too much concerning how IClips does or doesn't work in Leopard. However, I have had good success in contacting their customer support. I have had responsive communication with Mr. Mike Larry at email address: info2007@inventive.us. Perhaps if you tell him of your difficulties- and desire to have IClips work since it broke when you upgraded to Leopard- he can help facilitate support concerning your problem. Best of Luck- Bob

JOSHP  I don't believe that this program is bug free for one second. After five minutes of playing with it, I notice that the program often becomes unresponsive and pops up a window telling me it is waiting on Finder, Firefox, or whatever. Also, the menubar icon does not always show/hide the program on first click.
