CHEESEHEAD  I love Firefox, but the main thing stopping me from using it is Safari's cool dictionary look-up.

JOYPEBBLE  Beware: The upgrade to 3.6 tossed out all my Themes and loaded in the default look. I had to remember and download all the Themes again.

Also (and much worse) Firefox 3.6 will positively not load any Hotmail pages. Safari does just fine but Firefox seems to have been banned from Hotmail.

Now I can't get my mail.

Two hours of paid troubleshooting and I still can't get into Hotmail.

Watta pain!

JULIFOS  I was so happy with this release (even if the Persona stuff is a bit ugly, but still fun while you can just play and revert), when I found it continuously asks to activate whatever dozens of fonts. And no check/uncheck options in Apple's Fontbook will solve it. And the "Do not ask me again for Firefox" checkbox doesn't work. And Firefox just became un-usable.

Any hints or I must wait for 3.7 or revert to previous version? I found googling some people sharing this issue, but no info about fixes.

LOKHEED  Personas has to be singularly the dumbest and most egregious "feature" to ever grace a program in the last decade or so. This is a massive step back in usability and is not only developed, but also implemented without class.

Instead of tackling serious issues (like text-alignment through css, and start-up times), the coders are bloating Fx with this garbage? A little part of me died inside.

Browser chrome is a necessary part of the UI and should be held consistent through an OS. I'm all for themeing elements, provided it is done well and with refinement. Changing the background to an obtrusive image doesn't strike me as the least bit practical or sexy.

This is surely an epic fail and it's reminiscent of the "dark age" of computing that still plagues many lower class third party software on Windows.

It's the equivalent of colourizing a classic motion picture. For shame Fx Team...

FALSTAFFA  Lokheed, I concur with your assesment of Personas, my initial reaction to this 'feature' was a flashback to the days of excessive bloatware circa the mid-1990s, in fact I was reminded of Compuserve and Juno's virtual worlds -- or whatever they were called -- yuck, it will not surprise me in the least when -- not if -- this 'feature' tanks, crashes and burns, now let me reminesce about the "good 'ol days" of keypunch, Fortram, Cobol... disco... darn I'm getting old.

ROAMING NOMAD  Firefox 3.6 faaster than Safari 4.0.4?? Hahaha, not!

I use Safari for my main needs and FireFox 3.6 in case Safari 4.0.4 has a problem with a page or a cookie.

Firefox 3.6 is a vast improvement no doubt over prior versions but would I use it exclusively over safari, not a chance, too slow and still buggy.

ORION MK. V  Doesn't show up with the new version if I "check for updates" in FF 3.6, so I'm with Kobalt... doesn't seem new. Perhaps it'll be posted in the auto-updates later today.

MISHA  If you're running 3.6 there's no update for you -- the 3.0.18 and 3.5.8 updates are for people running 3.0.x or 3.5.x.

KOBALT  Misha, my point is that a post with a version 3.6 header has been posted before, in January. My question is why is it posted again, now?

If this is a post re updates to earlier versions, why would the heading to this post say 3.6? After all, when MS does an update to, say, Office 2004, it is posted here with a header saying as much and not as Office 2010 or whatever.

So in other words, is this a 'new' post about v3.6 or a mis-headed post about earlier version updates?

Sorry to be so pedantic ...

MISHA  Kobalt, typically apps only have a single listing at MacUpdate -- Office 2004 is one of the very few exceptions. We do this to keep things neat and tidy; no one wants to see Photoshop 7, CS, CS2, CS3, or CS4 when they search for "Photoshop" for example, or "Firefox, Firefox 2, Firefox 3, Firefox 3.5, Firefox 3.6".

Firefox is a popular enough app, though, that we feel communicating the release of new 3.0.x and 3.5.x builds is important to put the listing back on the main page. If we changed the version number to 3.0.18 or 3.5.8 that would probably create more confusion, so instead we edit the short description and add an Editor's Note explaining what's going on.

We're re-vamping the backend (and in fact every aspect of MacUpdate) at the moment so that we'll be able to handle multiple branches/versions of the same app so this can be avoided since I realize it's not quite perfect.
