DESCRIPTION
TransType is a small Mac application which can convert Type 1 and TrueType fonts between the Mac and PC. Unlike other programs of this kind, TransType does the conversion with full respect to codepages, encodings, font suitcases, bitmap fonts, and other features specific to the Mac or PC platform. Allowing you to convert fonts in batch mode (two-way conversion is possible as one operation) and producing absolutely correct fonts, TransType can be used to produce production-quality fonts.

EDSTATE  $179 wouldn't be bad if this had been updated sometime in the last few years. Universal Binary, pro favor?

LARAINE  I was going to try this software. But if it does only partial conversions in demo mode how can anyone try it properly? It's far too expensive to buy outright. Extensis Suitcase or FontAgent will solve my problems (not being able to use my favourite old, expensive Type 1 Postscript fonts in Tiger because they aren't in suitcases) and do it a lot cheaper. However, I still think a hundred dollars (the cost of either of these programs) is way too expensive for software I shouldn't need.

ANONYMOUS  Well, in a corporate capacity, someone might have bought the program outright and found it to work *without* bothering with the demo version. And a $179 price tag might not bother them as much, I don't know.

NOT THE DEVELOPER  No way did this application save anyones ass. It does a partial conversion in demo mode only! It takes three days to register so the above posting is highly suspect.

ANONYMOUS  I found this gem at the last moment and saved a big client. Their architectural firm runs both PC and windows. They owned the Mac font family and needed to plot a job from a PC but did not have the time to get the fonts. Although they have since purchased the fonts on the PC side, this was a huge help. It worked very well, easy to use interface. It did have problems with one of the fonts (one out of 27), I'm not sure why. Perhaps the font was corrupt. Other than that, this one's a gem and a life saver!
