GAOSHAN  Super neat! I have used Brickhouse in the past (like, 10.2 past) and this pref pane looks to be a simple, powerful, convenient way to have more detailed management over my firewall. It certainly beats what Apple has built in and it is not as intimidating as editing the raw firewall tables. Very nice!

OLIVIER  A new version (surprisingly 1.6) which adds support for Tiger is currently undergoing beta testing.

Because it is beta, and as usual is somehow a risk to a healthy system, it is available if you know what you are doing and want to help testing the build.

Not many new features and main thing is inded Tiger. I had to tweak many things, for for the time being, this build is not supported on Pre Tiger systems.

Check the website's forums, or send me a mail to get more info.

PEDRO GOMES DA SILVA  sunShield saved my day.

I had LOTS of problems with my home ftp server, since i stop using Apple's built in server and start using pure-ftpd (a great server that doesn't compromise my mac security giving full acess to all my files to anyone who has an account).

The built in GUI for the firewall didn't allow me to open the right ports needed for passive FTP but sunshield did.

The easy way to configure it? since both apps (the built in GUI and sunshield) are just interfaces for the same firewall activate the built in first, open the ports you need (and can) there, install sunshield and add the remaining rules from there.

Easy! ;)

FOOZMAN  This is only useful if you already understand how the native firewall works. I work with Firewalk X 2 which is pretty complicated compared with the control panel for the native firewall or a program like Net Barrier, and I was unable to do anything with sunshield. I suspect that if the documentation didn't assume that you could guess what everything meant, it would be a good program. It would probably be useful for someone who understands how to program the native firewall from the command line but doesn't like to. For anyone else, it is not really worth the trouble of downloading. Fortunately, it has a nuke button in the control panel. This button removes all trace of sunshield upon restart. It is the only button in the sunshield control panel that I understood.
