AEON  A great little application!

For those of you who are interested, there's a hidden new beta version (0.7b6) that fixes a lot of the bugs that were bothering me in version 0.7b5. It seems faster too. You can get it from this URL:

KLKTRK  Still my favorite graphical interface to MySQL databases. Thanks to the developers for their work.

I still have one MAJOR flaw to point out. Do a MySQL table dump with drop tables on even a medium sized database (50,000 rows, four tables), and prepared to see CocoaMySQL hang (reports 101% processor usage and becomes unresponsive and gobbles up massive amounts of RAM until you force quit it).

This behavior has been verified on three different Macs (PowerPC and Intel) with different OS versions since at least the 0.5 days in CocoaMySQL, and it still exists!

I love CocoaMySQL, but am sad that I still need to use the command line for any data lifting of substance.

Suggestion: Feed the mysqldump to a shell subprocess and just let it notify the application when it is done. This would free up the user interface in the meantime and would handle the memory issues.

DARYLF2  CocoaMySQL just keeps getting better and better. Its extremely useful in that it connects both with old MySQL versions (such as the Windows MySQL 3.23.58-nt I need for my work project) as well as the latest versions (such as MySQL 5.0.24-standard on my Mac). I use CocoaMySQL to move databases from the PC running MySQL 3.23.58 to my Mac running MySQL 5.0.24 so that I can do subselect and other more advanced queries not supported by 3.23.58, then move the updated databases back to MySQL 3.23.58.

CocoaMySQL makes this easy, with a very Mac-like GUI, impressive robustness, and good performance!

ANONYMOUS  Great app. Easy to use, good UI, powerful, fast, simple. Almost perfect. The only improvement that I see is to change the slightly ugly buttons and to get rid of the little square line surrounding the "database", "tables", and "encoding" fields on the left. It could be replaced with a more standard nsbox.

ANONYMOUS  One of the most useful pieces of software i have used! I have been used to tabbing between phpMyAdmin pages to make changes to many databases that i administer and this software has cut out the tediousness of making changes through a webpage.

Also, this software has saved my butt with moving databases from one db server to another that is using different versions. It was always a pain in the butt to use phpMyAdmin's export/import feature because it is very picky. CocoaMySQL handles db dumps and imports very nicely!

PATRICK BENNETT  Thank goodness for open source!! I was having similiar problems connecting to databases after my ISP upgraded their install.

Luckily, even though the main developer has forsaken us, others have picked up the torch.

Find a newer, more compatible version here: http://www.theonline.org/cocoamysql/

Enjoy!

ANONYMOUS  Does not work with MySQL 5.x series. Connects to the server, but will not show the schema or table contents. Bummer.

RADD  Easily the best MySQL management tool for Mac... which you can take one of two ways, both of which are correct:

On one hand, CocoaMySQL is a pretty solid tool... it's stable, easy to use, quick, and effective... everything you need to make a solid base app.

On the other hand, a good part of the reason it is the best app for this purpose available is that most every other MySQL client for Mac is pretty much abysmal on one level or another.

Sadly, it has been over a year and a half since the last update and we seem to be perpetually left with a, though very solid & stable, "mostly done" app. There is still quite a bit of room for improvement and feature enhancement... no question.

I would probably consider cutting off body parts if I thought it would get development rolling again.

That said... if you're looking for a solid, stable, easy to use MySQL tool for OSX that covers the basics (and thus 90% of what you'll likely need), downloading CocoaMySQL is a no-brainer.
