KKNOPP BTW a tip or hint to the people who run the #Colloquy IRC channel. Be a bit nicer to new people that show up. Acting pretentious or "above" those that come in and don't automatically fit into your "clique" doesn't do your application or the time spent on it justice. Remember, if it wasn't for us, you'd not have a userbase. I was on there earlier and saw two people that weren't cussing, saying anything BAD about the application, or trolling at all. But they were being treated poorly by those that ran the channel. Having a great application like Colloquy wont matter if those that are involved act badly toward those interested. Not going to name names. You know who you are. (Version 2.2.1(4132))

ROBBY.IS.ON I've found the #colloquy people to be quite friendly actually. I'm sorry you experienced otherwise. (Version 2.2.1(4132))

KKNOPP They are for the most part now that I have been in there for awhile. But the day I was in there was an exception I guess. Quite hostile. (Version 2.2.1(4132))

ILGAZ It is the problem of open source in general. People having nothing to do with the project declare themselves as "supporters" and act like they are the people who does code it giving bad name to the project itself. (Version 2.2.1(4132))

KKNOPP Wow I really thought this program was dead in the water. Glad I was mistaken. I am back to using it now instead of Snak. Colloquy is probably the most MODERN and mac like of all IRC clients. It seems the others are stuck in 1995 and haven't really tried to improve on the idea at all. Other than scripting abilities and aliases and such. I've been wanting REAL emoticons in IRC for ages. And Colloquy lets you turn them off if you are annoyed by them as well. (Choice is good) The only real bugs I had was the preferences would "stick" sometime and I couldn't get them open. Especially the Appearance panel. (Version 2.2.1(4132))

MRGANDO This application is amazing, the price can't be beat, and it's packed with cool features. Low on memory usage too, the "automate" on connect has always proven very useful for me. Also the stability has always been rock solid for me. Thank you for this, and keep up the good work. _NG (Version 2.2.1(4132))

FOOBAZ Version 2.1(3720) of Colloquy fixes a lot of bugs and is far more stable and less resource-intensive than earlier versions. I tried it and ended up switching back to Colloquy from X-Chat. (Version 2.1(3720))

JOHN NOWAK Colloquy is a mixed bag. On the plus side, it looks nice, works nice (mostly) once you have it set up, and most importantly for me, it has SILC support. Unfortunately, it has a number of issues. Appearance preferences usually do not update unless you restart the app. There's a bug in tab handling if you use the tabbed window mode (dragging a new tab to the left side jumps it to the right). It crashes on me once a day or so. It doesn't give much indication of how a connection attempt is going, especially on startup. It keeps creating a transcripts folder even though I have logging disabled. Etc etc... If you need SILC, this is definitely your best bet as nothing else exists beyond irssi-silc or gaim. If you don't need it, well... it is still probably your best bet. Just get used to the annoyances. It's a shame there isn't a more solid IRC client for the Mac. I'd happy pay $15-25 for one if there was. (Version 2.1(3590))

8BIT-WINTERMUTE I switched to this from X-Chat Aqua. It's mac-like enough. The only things that bug me are the growl-style popups that are a bit annoying, and I wish the nick column could automatically be as wide as it needed to be instead of me having to go back into the options to keep changing it. Other than that, this is the best mac client I've used for IRC. It sits at 2% cpu use on my dual core iMac BTW not 65% (Version 2.1)

LEONCAHUN 2% cpu is only true when you use it _very_ carefully, like just letting drop in chat-messages, etc. But: whenif you scroll in populated windows, when you change themes, etc. cpu-drawing jumps up very high (like 100% on a Core Duo), leaving the app temporarily unresponsive, therefore unusable, at least warming up your Intel-Mac. It's a pity since otherwise this app could be _the_ OS X IRC-app. But please fix ressource-management first. Thx. (Version 2.1(3590))

JOHN NOWAK Unfortunately, it'll never be fixed. There's massive incompetence on the part of the author. (Version 2.1(3590))

LEONCAHUN The app is nice, though it should be easier to switch views (tab-based view, drawer-based view, etc). However, what is a problem is the amount of cpu-cycles this puppy draws. In Activity Monitor it jumps up and down, crossing the 65% level (on a 2GHz Core Duo)! Come on, that's an IRC app (and I am talking about being connected to _one_ server, and _four_ channels at a time; not like 20 servers, and 80 channels). Bottom line: this app warms up my Macbook Pro more than Safari under heavy use; comparable to Aperture preparing some slideshow-previews, or stuff. I dont think that's acceptable. (Version 2.1)

PO60T The best looking, most mac-like IRC client available for OSX. I love the customisability of Colloquoy. There are some nice themes from Adium that would look good in IRC. Some features I would like to see in the next version. -fserve support, !triggers and stuff. -handle the user list in a draw like Conversation with the Sidebar Window interface. -set colour of your name. (maybe you can do this already?) -Fix file transfer. If you clear a finished transfer, the feedback of the remaining downloads stops updating even though the file is still DL. If you want to refresh you have to keep clicking the clear button. Otherwise it is a pleasure to use. (Version 2.1)
