DESCRIPTION
WordService provides 37 functions to convert, format or speak the currently selected text, to insert data or to show statistics of the selection within all Cocoa applications (e.g. Textedit, Pages, Mail, Stickies, Safari or Xcode) and Carbon applications supporting services.
Commands:
- Reformat
- Remove line endings/multiple spaces/multiple feeds/quotes
- Remove attachments/links
- Trim line beginnings/line endings/lines
- Sort lines ascending/descending
- Shift left/right
- Initial Caps Of Words/Sentences
- All Caps/Lowercase
- Macintosh/Windows/Unix line endings
- Mac- to Windows-Encoding/Windows- to Mac-Encoding
- Encode/Decode tabs
- Straight/Smart quotes
- Rotate13
- Insert short/long date or date & time
- Insert time
- Insert contents of path
- Speak native/german text

ACHOCO When I hit download now the blue bar runs across, stops and nothing happens after that. How do I install and use MacUpdate? NOTE: I was a heavy Windows, Word, Outlook user and am trying to adapt to the Mac. Thanks......

DERICO Hey, in Snow Leopard just have a look for keyboard shortcuts in system preferences. There you are able to enable and disable most of the services and could assign keyboard shortcuts to them (hence the placement of this option, though hard to find). In Leopard they just appeared - if I remember correctly. Oh, and make sure you have text selected... | |

MACBENUTZER BTW, 3 of these functions: all caps, all lowercase, and initial caps for words can all be done by creating a key bindings file. Learn how to do this, and there's a whole bunch of convenient things you can do. Unfortunately, this method does not let you define functions that can see what the text it's changing contains, so it cannot replace most of the great functionality in WordService.

MACBENUTZER I love this new functionality, but I wish it wouldn't limit the Smart Quotes command to a single language per user. I use my computer for both English and German, and even though Smart Quotes can handle either, it chooses the language based on a single key in the info.plist file, so you can't set it up to give you both a "Smart Quotes English" and a "Smart Quotes German" function. Unless, of course, someone out there knows a way to do this.

PEANUT BUTTER Reformat is the best feature EVER! This one piece does what other $30+ programs do..... for free. Other great tools in there too. | |

WHEELIE4 I tried this today on my intel macbook C2D. As the readme said, I created a new folder named "Services" inside my users "Libraries" folder and copied the "Wordservices.services" file into it then logged out and back in but I do not get any service menu when I opened a file in textedit. What I do wront?

MACBENUTZER I found your problem. Yes, it's a step backward, but in Mac OS 10.4, "Services" is not a menu on the menu bar. It's in the application menu (e.g., "TextEdit") under the sub-menu for "Services". It's intermixed with all of the other services. That makes it 1 step more work to use. So I would only use those that you can put on keys. BTW, I also discovered that the key shortcuts are disabled for those keys that are already used by the application. To fix this, redefine the shortcut to a key available in all of the applications you use it with.

LEONCAHUN A universal binary would be welcomed (2.6.1 is noticeable slow on fast Core Duo's, e.g. when invoking the Statistics-service).

ANONYMOUS WordService is very nice and it works perfectly with TextEdit and Safari in Tiger. But, it doesn't seem to work in Mail 2.0? I have tried it on two different Macs with the same results. Anyone else having this problem?
