DESCRIPTION

MenuMeters is a set of CPU, memory, disk, and network monitoring tools for Mac OS X. Although there are numerous other programs which do the same thing, none had quite the feature set I was looking for. Most were windows that sat in a corner or on the desktop, which are inevitably obscured by document windows on a PowerBook's small screen. Those monitors which used the menubar mostly used the NSStatusItem API, which has the annoying tendency to totally reorder my menubar on every login.

The MenuMeters monitors are true SystemUIServer plugins (also known as Menu Extras). This means they can be reordered using command-drag and remember their positions in the menubar across logins and restarts.

MenuMeters is open source freeware released under the GNU General Public License version 2.

WHAT'S NEW
Version 1.4b4 (public beta):
  • [BUG] Fix network throughput on 10.6 with some new machine models.

WRIPPS  I have used this program for years, and it has worked with every operating system I have had. While I have tried out and looked at many other similar programs I have found nothing better. It puts the information out of the way where you can find it anytime and it just works. If you get this program drop them a donation.

UNCOY  MenuMeters is a superb tool for those who use their computers heavily.

While you are multitasking you are instantly alerted to issues in uploading, memory leaks and paging, caches being permanently to disk, core processes or user projects getting stuck.

Frankly the cost of the instant info is having a fair amount of your menu bar taken up with the four indicators.

So on my most recent two Snow Leopard installs I tried to get by without MenuMeters. Bliss in simplicity. Higher productivity.

No such luck. Without instant visual feedback, your computer will bog down on a broken Internet connection or a runaway process, slowing one down more than the milliseconds to see where the issues are.

Normal mortals may not need this but if you are typically running 15 plus apps with lots of open browser tabs and open browsers (you know who you are), you should have this.

ROAMING NOMAD  Very handy and useful. I use only the Network Meter to show my throughput speeds.

My only minor gripe was that I had to add a space to the speeds in the localizable.strings so my old eyes can read the outputs easier.

But overall, 5 stars all across the board!

CUCHULAINN  Excellent App. With every Mac I have purchased over the past few years, Menu Meters is one of the first "must have" apps I download.

I really appreciate the developer for providing this app and continuing to do so for free. Outstanding!

ANDREAS  My apologies to the developer that this board won't allow me to give a rating above 5.

Does anyone really use a Mac without at least the CPU 'thermometer' in the menubar?

MACNERD1984  Yep; I do. I have no interest in how hot the processor is running - Can't do much about it anyway, and I'll hear the fans kick in anyway. I use CPU Percentage and that's that. Anyway, I know when my MBP is running hot, because It scorches my genitalia as it sits on my lap; kind of like my own temperature sensor.

CORPSECORPS  Very cool, useful, and versatile gizmo. I was a wee bit panicked when it disappeared yesterday when i installed Snow Leopard. Was relieved to find a new version available.
