MenuMeters is a set of CPU, memory, disk, and network monitoring tools for Mac OS X. Although there are numerous other programs which do the same thing, none had quite the feature set I was looking for. Most were windows that sat in a corner or on the desktop, which are inevitably obscured by document windows on a PowerBook's small screen. Those monitors which used the menubar mostly used the NSStatusItem API, which has the annoying tendency to totally reorder my menubar on every login.
The MenuMeters monitors are true SystemUIServer plugins (also known as Menu Extras). This means they can be reordered using command-drag and remember their positions in the menubar across logins and restarts.
MenuMeters is open source freeware released under the GNU General Public License version 2.
STEVE R Like many others who have posted in the last 24 hours I realised how much I've come to depend on MenuMeters. Now I encourage everyone who has raved about the update to get on paypal and send a donation to show our thanks. (Version 1.4b1)
RONL Yep... I use MenuMeters with the CPU % in the menu bar ;)
Superb app!
One of the first things I install after doing a clean install. (Version 1.4b4)

MACNERD1984 Yep; I do. I have no interest in how hot the processor is running - Can't do much about it anyway, and I'll hear the fans kick in anyway. I use CPU Percentage and that's that. Anyway, I know when my MBP is running hot, because It scorches my genitalia as it sits on my lap; kind of like my own temperature sensor. (Version 1.4b4)

NED SCOTT Glad to see MenuMeters back with a 10.6 release! Thank you so much to the developers of this. (Version 1.4b1)
DOPPELBOCK Thanks for the update for 10.6 compatibility - I'm downloading now to give it a try. I've only had SL installed for a couple days and I miss my MenuMeters! (Version 1.4b1)
BYTES Works like a charm for me on 10.6 (Version 1.4b1)

MACHSPEED5 love this app, always the first thing i install on any new/reformatted mac, (along with quicksilver ;P)
seems incompatible with leopard/boot camp...network info in the menubar resets after reboot.
hasn't been updated in a while, so i'm off to look for a replacement. it's served me well, and who knows, it may continue if i can't find a suitable replacement. though i think istatpro may have had similar functions (going by memory - so don't shoot).
M. LUTHER iStat menus is what you want. (Version 1.3)

CORPSECORPS Very cool, useful, and versatile gizmo. I was a wee bit panicked when it disappeared yesterday when i installed Snow Leopard. Was relieved to find a new version available. (Version 1.4b1)
HEYMINI I was gutted when the last version of Menu Meters didnt work with 10.6 'Snow Leopard'
I just love the way that little throughput monitor lets me know what my network connection is doing. Full marks to the developer for reworking this beautiful little programme so quickly. (Version 1.4b1)
