DESCRIPTION
iCan is is a trashcan for OS X which sits on the desktop. It's interactive - it appears empty when it's empty, and full when it's full, just like the one in OS 9.

You can drag to it, unmount disks with it, click it to open the trash folder, and it responds to the Finder's command-delete.

If you like variation, you can switch to another trashcan, iCan is customizable using any of the included iCan Themes. If you wish to make your own themes, it's easy, and instructions are provided.

WHAT'S NEW

  • Fixed several problems introduced in the last three releases including:
  • Sometimes items would not be deleted when dragging them to the trash
  • Sometimes disks would not be ejected when dragging them to the trash.

LARRY2  Great app for desktop trash. However on macbook pro(intels) there is a serious memory leak. If your computer start running abnormally and you have this app running open your activity monitor and check the memory usage for this app. The virtual memory can reach as high as 1gb and real memory as high as 225mb. that is alot for a utility app. Not recommended for intels until it is updated. All that said - Stability - is the ONLY problem with this app.  (Version 3.0.5)

FLARCH  I have a lot of items in my dock which makes my trash very small and i like to be able to drag. Nice feature set too... or so it appears.

I've noticed various quirks. I set it displays the # of items in the trash in vertically clipped text so i turned on the option to use a plain font and color of my choice. It displayed it at first, then disappeared.

It HOGS far more than it's share of CPU power. It never seems to show as completely idle, and sometimes takes as much as Activity Monitor itself!

It doesn't play very well with USB overdrive either.

Once upon a time i thought this looked good but i didn't need it because i was using DragThing. Now i could go back to Dragthing just for the desktop trash and use less CPU! Throughout the time i observed it, iCan had 6 threads and never dropped below 1.4% CPU on my ole G4. (OS 10.3.8) )8^(  (Version 3.0.5)

TONY  This software is good and functional BUT it does not allow my desktop files to be dragged into their trash icon. Too bad!!

Hope developer can fix it.  (Version 3.0.5)
