EXEGETEJR  We use QB pro 2007 (pc version) via Parallels and Vista (a terrible solution) but we're in Canada and Intuit continues to COMPLETELY ignore Canadian Mac users, leaving us with the 2004 Mac Canadian version as the last compatible version ... so we're stuck with Vista and the pc version. As such though swapping QB files with out accountant is easy enough - except for having to fire up a second OS just to do so! Wishing there was an alternative that could export a QB compatible file...

I've emailed and received dozens "customer care" calls from Intuit and their standard response is to tell me they "recommend using the pc version with Boot Camp and Vista"! Wow, that's great Intuit. It is mind-boggling how such a known and supposedly reputable company can operate this way...

DR. GIRLFRIEND  One of the first things people ask when switching to Mac and attempting to use Quicken or Quickbooks for Mac is: "What's a good alternative to Quicken (or Quickbooks)? I keep a list in my documents folder to email to people who ask me. Here are the current contenders, in no particular order:

Prospects

iCompta

MoneyDance

MoneyWell

MoneyGuru

iBank

Checkbook Pro

Fortora Fresh Finance

Budget

If you have to use any Intuit products, I wish you luck. If you don't, you may want to consider supporting a company who is more customer-friendly to the Mac community. ~Best wishes.

DR. GIRLFRIEND  Thanks for the comment, KLAGRECA. I tend to classify iBiz as more of a "billing" app rather than an "accounting" app like the other Quicken/Quickbooks alternatives I mentioned above. I have a separate list for time and billing apps:

OnTheJob

GrandTotal with TimeLog

Billings

TaskTime

OfficeTime

Studiometry

KLAGRECA  Here's a perfect example of why Quickbooks falls hard.

I'm trying to enter cash back on a deposit. Sounds simple, right? Well, Quickbooks tells me that "The cash back account is invalid." And then tells me to choose another account.

Well quess what Quickbooks? The account is fine by my accounting standards, so if you have some secret validation method....shouldn't you let me know??? Like "account X is invalid so try Y."

Thanks Quickbooks. You're more damaged than Manny Ramirez's baseball career.

MACERICG  The ONLY reason we run Windows on out Intel Mac is to run the PC version of QuickBooks for our accountant. The Mac version just plain stinks! Less features than the PC version and buggy.

Add to that you cannot simply exchange QuickBooks files between Mac and PC without running file converters. Is this day and age this is ridiculous! All the major software manufacturers took care of cross platform compatibility long before Macs were even running on Intel. This is a joke Intuit. Why can't you bee more like Microsoft or Adobe?

Oh, and support stinks no matter which platform you use.

MACZILLLLLA  I updated to 2009. Nothing has improved. Sure, it looks better, but it still has the same bugs. It syncing with AddressBook is still terrible. There search function doesn't use the dates I put in. Lots of crashes. Documentation leaves a lot to be desired. How can a major company like Intuit make such terrible software?

ACCGUY  Quickbooks 2009 for MAC has bugs. I can get it to crash on Report filters every time. Even trying with the canned-QB company and from safe boot, it will crash. It's really disappointing - my move to the MAC has been great except for this program. Does Intuit test their products before release?

FILCHESCAT  This version 10.0.0.3 R4 has been out for several weeks. Crashes on me about 1 in 4 times of use. Fortunately no data loss - just a pain to restart the app and that uneasy feeling of possible data loss or corruption. Intuit's crash reporting system always gathers crash and system info and allows for input, but rarely if ever do I get any feedback after the report. For a while the feedback was that they re-did the sound (??), but even these reports have ceased. This 2009 version is truly beta and should be majorly cleaned up before release as a commercial product. Too bad I'm stuck with it or I'd seriously look at another business accounting system.
