DESCRIPTION
Sound Byte is a computerized cart machine for the Macintosh. It is very similar to the so-called cart machines used at radio stations in the past. Each recording - a jingle, advertisement, etc, was on a cartidge, which could be quickly selected and played.

Sound Byte brings the cart machine to the computer age. You can assign select up to 75 recordings per rack, and assign each to a button. Clicking on a button plays that recording. Multiple recordings can be played at the same time.

Three versions are available:

  • Sound Byte Lite supports a single rack of carts, or up to 75 recordings total. The registration fee is only $39.
  • Sound Byte supports five racks of carts, or up to 375 recordings total. The registration fee is only $79.
  • Sound Byte Pro supports fifty racks of carts, or up to 3750 recordings total. The registration fee is only $149.

CORPSECORPS  Downloaded the Lite version to give it a trial.

NEEDS POLISH!

Aliased icon and a few peculiarities in the UI.

Hard to test it out when the trial comes with no actual sounds. At least 1 rack's worth of small sound effect clips would help greatly. While i might have use for this, i don't currently have a huge library of sound snips lying around to test it out with so i went scouring my drives and within games and found a few AIF's, but mostly .OGGs or other formats it won't play.

Nags to purchase the full version come often and are accompanied by a system alert sound.

PROFESSOR_B  When this works, it is great. When it doesn't...well, it gets weird.

I have this running on a Macbook for a podcast that I do. The software sometimes works well, but other times, the sounds break apart, get choppy, or clip a microsecond from the front of the sound. I often have to quit and reopen the program to get it to work correctly.

The developer has tried to be helpful, but we cannot resolve this problem. The software is almost unusable for me, and the developer is at a loss.

STEVE  Was wondering if this app could be used in as part of a broadcasting app as part of an actual internet broadcast.

OTHERDAVE  Pretty cool little cart app....but why the hell does the description still say it broadcasts radio stations on the net? Pretty much doesn't do that. Nope.
