I wanted to try this but the link is broken??? The new link (posted below) is for some sort of FrontRow type of thing. I need something to 'encod'e not just 'play'. Currently using DivXRay 2.5 and it serves me well.

Download demo, open, drag .avi file into window, try and play, unexpectedly quit.
Repeat, try and covert to mpeg, unexpectedly quit.
Running 10.3.9 on G4 800 with 512 RAM.
Sad as would like to find SOMETHING EASY to convert .avi to VCD, think maybe DivX not talking to Quicktime 7 the cause of a lot of woes?
No rating as not working.

If you want a program that will easily convert an avi/mpeg/divx/xvid to VCD, just use toast. It takes a while to encode but comes out as a perfect VCD at the other end

Before you buy a software, don't forget to look for free alternatives. By the way, the encoders used by Xray video are open source projects. You will find free frontends for them at macupdate.

So, watch out, try, compare and consider. Then decide which software is worth how much.

the 4.0.2 version of this won't even run on my G5. it works on my PowerBook 1.5Ghz fine--even well (as a demo at least). but it refuses to work on my G5. caches are clean, permissions are good, everything else works above par--except for this. it opens up, then it beachballs. the XRay 4 menu bar doesn't even replace the standard Finder menu bar.

wuzup with that?

This stuff stills sucks and isn't worth its price. You can do the same and even more with free and open source apps.

There is no need for a expensive program like that.
