It's a Shame to Apple…
Sold mpg2 codec and cannot read TS, VOB, MPEG multiplexed with AC3 !!
The new version cannot longer export from Quicktime…
Verry Lot of shame like no mp3 export in quicktime than LAME is free source…

I purchased this so I could edit some MPEG-2 files that I converted from my TiVo. Problem is, this plugin lets me hear the sound okay but the video freezes after a few frames, so it's useless for my purposes. I'm going to contact Apple for a refund.

did you get the refund?

I had attempted to get refund/update when I purchased QT Pro v5 key about two weeks before they released QT 6. No dice, no help, no good feelings over that one. :(

You know, I don't think I ever got around to asking for a refund, or maybe I did but I never got a response. I remember it was hard to figure out exactly where to go to ask for it, where the right place was to send in my request. Either way, I never used the plugin, because it never worked for me.

The concept of this software is awesome. However, I'm having a great deal of problems with the reality. For some strange reason this software only reads the first 15-30 percent of a VOB file. I tried to view a 2 minute clip and it should up as a 30 clip (with the other 1:30 clipped off). I don't know what the problem is and the Quicktime website is of no help at all. Does anybody have any clues on what the heck I should do?

You can add FREE mpg-2 playback capability and more to your Mac using VLC Media Player. Really, what's Apple up to?

If you want to use MPEG2 in apps like FinalCut, AfterEffects and so on you'll need this, as they rely on Quicktime for file-format handling.

I, too, was annoyed by the difficulty in updating this component. Eventually I discovered how to do it. Go to the Apple store, click on "Review Your Account". Enter your username and password and you are taken to a page where one of the options is "Software Download Purchases". Click it, and you are taken to a page that allows you to download the updated version of the component.

it's crippled and won't decode more than a little over a gig of mpeg2 at which point it craps out. This would be a great component if it didn't have this limitation.

How are you supposed to update this? I have QuickTime 6 MPEG-2 Playback version 1.0 installed and version 6.3 does not show up in Software Update or QuickTime Updater. Typical Apple B.S!

This has to be one of the best add-ons for Quicktime, even if it is $20. Now you can watch SVCDs right in Quicktime (say good-bye to nasty shareware viewers). This is a big help when encoding MPEG-2 video streams as you can view them immediately to check the quality instead of burning to DVD or SVCD first. I gave it a 2 for value because I believe Apple should have included it with Quicktime 6, but other than that it's great.

leave it to apple to charge it's loyal users for something that should be free...it's bad enough we have to pay a premium for hardware, now we also have to pay for freebies as well...
