For those seeking this driver, I've uploaded it to my site:

http://www.joyofmacs.com/downloads/eUSBSM-OSX-1.04.zip

This driver worked fine on a Mac G4 running 10.5.8.

It installs on an Intel Mac mini running 10.6.8, but nothing happens when I insert a SmartMedia card in the ZiO! reader.

Thanks MacUpdate for this driver download. So far it seems to work with 10.5. Before that I was considering getting a new card reader, because the aggravation was just too much. Hopefully this is a lasting solution. Thank you.

It's 10/14/09. I desperately need the Leopard driver for Zio SM reader, but the link above is broken. Can anyone supply another source for it? Many, many thanks.

Thank goodness for MacUpdate! Everyone else had simply linked the developer website for this file. MacUpdate was the only sole place on the Internet I could find that was independently hosting this file.. and a good thing too because the developer disappeared the drivers over two subsequent acquisitions by other companies! You saved me much grief!

When I upgraded my G3 iMac from OS 9.2 to 10.4.6 I lost my handy Zio SmartMedia reader to progress. The only way I could get a disk image to come up was to restart in OS 9. It was a pain, but it worked. I was looking to buy another reader with OS X compatibility, but made a last-ditch effort to find a driver - and that's when I found MacUpdate. I downloaded and installed the ZiO! SmartMedia Reader driver 1.0.4, restarted my computer, and plugged in a card. Viola! I got the disk image and the functionality of OS X's image capture utility. MacUpdate, you saved my Zio's life - and saved me the expense of another reader!

Thanks!
Kevin

I don't see how to edit my comment but I needed a compact flash card reader. I don't think that is what this is, which may be why it doesn't work on my system.

Works fine in Tiger.

Zio combined with Smardisk, so all downloads are moved. I had to track down the driver on the Smartdisk website. The direct download at the Smartdisk is:

This driver does work with Tiger (Mac OS X 10.4.1). I just transfered some pictures from a 64MB SmartMedia card. As the installer suggests a reboot is necessary.

Can Jens or other tell me how they got the downloaded driver to work with Mac OS 10.4.1? I tried to install the driver twice and rebooted but I still can't get my Zio to mount on the desktop. The Zio now owned by Smartdisk Corp. Not Zio corp or original Microtec.

The installer appeared to work the first time, but the log file showed errors. In fact, Stuffit Expander 10.0 unpacked it incorrectly. I tried Expander 6.0, saw a .gz file inside the package, and now I have SmartMedia.kext (version 1.0.4) in my Extensions folder. (Apparently Expander 10 tried to recursively expand the package contents and only screwed it up.)

Yet, ZiO is still not working for me on 10.4.3. Is there a place to get the older driver versions?

I forgot that cards go gold side down. Now it is working for me - recent clean install of OS 10.4.3, plus /System/Library/Extensions/SmartMedia.kext (version 1.0.4)

I converted my G4 PowerBook from OS 9 to OS X 10.3, and now I'm running 10.3.5. My ZiO! was working perfectly when I was in OS 9. It does not work at all now. I installed this driver and all I got for it was the following message: The following extension was not installed correctly, please reinstally or contact the manufacturer for a update: /system/library/extensions/usbatcf.kext

Removing/uninstalling and reinstalling did nothing. My ZiO! is now lifeless. It will not mount on the desktop. I had to go to my local Apple store and purchas a new (FireWire) reader, which worked perfectly the first time I used it.

I don't mind having to install a driver. But what driver? The driver being supplied apparently only really works with 10.2.x (even though some of us have been able to use it with 10.3.3. This is not acceptable.

Yes, you need a driver for this zio reader... get over it. Blame the Manufacturer not the OS for not making this clear to its customers.

Running OSX 10.3.3 on a PowerPC G4.
Driver works like a champ after restart.

your answer to this man's problem was idealistic & lazy.
reverting to an old osx kernel of os x is not a solution to the problems of today.
don't be such an irritating commentator - in fact , why don't you just shut up unless you have something positive to contribute.
i have the same problem this man described - & there is no solution; i'm currently writing a new driver for 10.4 , & as soon as i'm finshed writing it ,
i'll have more to offer regarding this issue than your snide & lazy commentary - i bet you don't even know how to program . . . .
quit making such forums uncomfortable for those of us who like to get things done.
