What, hydraMUD? hydraMUD is my first effort at writing an application for Mac OS X. The main reason I'm building it though, is because in my search for MUD clients for the Mac, all I could find was ancient pre-Mac OS 9 software. I started using Mac OS X last year and I've never looked back. My prospects for finding a good MUD client that I didn't have to run in classic were dismal. I wanted a robust, user-configureable MUD client that would run natively on my system. I had already decided I was going to teach myself Cocoa, now I had a goal to accomplish. In all fairness though, building a MUD client
What's New
Version 0.6.5.1: Release notes were unavailable when this listing was updated.
Requirements
PPC, Mac OS X 10.2 or later.
Be the first to recommend a similar software title.
I would like to change my previous vote on hydramuds stability. It's crashed 3 times (unexpectedly shut down no force quit required) in the past 5 minutes.

The interface is nice and the program is generally well-organized. (unlike savitar) It allows me to "run" quickly, which is necessary in my million + room game http://www.materiamagica.com (unlike cantrip). I don't have to boot os9! And it saves my settings! (unlike rapscallion)
Unfortunately in order to be competitive in a complicated IEN you need an alias system that supports multiple lines. You need triggers and tickers. I wish you had put these essentials in prior to the extras like transparancy settings and spell checkers.
I will glady receive updates as your program is the most promising, and once these things are in place I would definately crack open my wallet for hydraMUD.

In all fairness, Cocoa gives you transparency and spell checking by default, so it is not as if he has his priorities in the wrong place.

I liked hydraMUD, my favorite client, but, no way to register it, and it now reporting its expiry date, despite downloading each new update religiously has now put me off, handy hint peeps, don't bother getting it, if your previous version has 'expired' :-/

I'm not (nor was ever) a heavy MUDder, but I love the games. I think I'm about to get addicted to one again (I found The Prophecy at http://www.mud.lu.)
Incredible interface, under active development, fast, and very easy to use.

Incredibly speedy.
Very promising.
Active Development.
I like it.
The rating is lower because it's in development. But I'd give it an overall 5, for what it does at the stage of development it is in.

Currently hydraMUD is still in alpha stages. There's bugs! So if you're a hard core mudder, don't run with it. By all means, please download it and try it out (I need the feedback), but be cognizant that there still are the peculiarities of any software under development.
Features:
Mac OS X native written in ObjC Cocoa.
BSD Socket based connection for fast Mudding.
ANSI color code compliant
streamlined UI (no need to click to focus text input or scroll text windows)
customizable key bindings (control-arrow keys for N/S/E/W+CR for example)
live-searchable recent command list.
Transparent output windows. credit Nadreck for the reminder.
user definable text routing and display. (chat to chat window, battle to battle window, custom to custom window etc.)
