  • JMP crashes when the Run Formulas command is sent to a simulation data table that was created in DOE using the Make Table button.
  • JMP will crash if incorrect syntax is used for List Box items.
  • JMP will close or crash when the last table is closed when using JMP Automation.
  • JMP Automation Document "Name" method does not work.
  • The JMP Automation command TableBoxMakeDataTable fails.
  • JMP Automation command GetDataTable will fail in some circumstances.
  • The Bivariate platform now disconnects from the data table when platform results are deleted.
  • JMP Excel add-in crashes Excel 2010 on XP.
  • Confidence intervals for parameter estimates are incorrect in Choice platform.
  • JMP closes unexpectedly when Ctrl-clicking the Match function.
  • Arrange Plots option not functional on ALT-click red triangle menu in Overlay Plot.
  • Firth Effect Likelihhod Ratio Tests and Firth Joint Factor Tests use incorrect likelihood in Choice and GLM platform.
  • Countour plot fill option removes some contours.
  • Concatenation adds rows too early.
  • Sequence Fill option no longer fills empty rows to end of table.
  • Moving range sigma capability analysis ignores excluded values, weights, and frequencies.
  • Fit Model not correctly processing By group analyses if run from a saved script.
  • Empty Graph Builder result when copying and pasting.
  • The Save Estimates option in Nonlinear does not function properly in the Formula Editor.
  • Response counts in Leaf Report for nominal responses should be whole numbers.
  • Factor settings change unexpectedly for unlocked factors in Profiler.
  • JMP 9 Excel Add-In does not work properly with 64-bit Excel 2010.
  • REML Hat statistics don't match PROC MIXED.

SAS JMP is, in my view, the best package available on any platform for quantitative analysis. What makes it terrific is its outstanding interactive design. This design allows for quick and powerful theory building. I taught statistics on the university level for years and used the outstanding student version of this software and its combination of visual and mathematical analysis is truly second to none. Alas, it is extremely expensive and out of the range of vast number of potential users. It is obviously designed for the corporate sector, since SPSS tends to dominate the academic market.

Wow! February 2008 and it still isn't a universal binary. For the $1500--yes, I said FIFTEEN HUNDRED DOLLAR--single-user license fee, one would think SAS could do a little more on the development end, especially since there's been two new versions (6 & 7) that have come out since version 5 (the one still mentioned in the description as of this writing) in 2002 -- again without a UB upgrade.

JMP is also very, very weak in comparison to SPSS -- which as a lot more sophisticated operations, comes in at $1700, and has been UB for a while now.

Perhaps most importantly, very few people use JMP, which makes porting files around almost impossible. SPSS, on the other hand, is almost ubiquitous.

If you're thinking about this software, I suggest you stop -- unless you really, really like expensive toys you can only play with by yourself. Don't get caught up with a bunch of proprietary files that very few others can read and which you won't be able to read unless you keep upgrading (which is also incredibly expensive).

I downloaded the JMP 7 trial and it IS a Universal binary. It's just the MacUpdate page incorrectly lists it as PPC. I used JMP in my introductory stats course and found it easy to use (easier than SPSS) though now that I've used SPSS 16 I wouldn't go back to JMP, even though SPSS is a little slow and clunky in some ways it makes really nice, professional graphs and tables, which is what I mainly need.
