Blue Box Invoices allows you to centralize client/company information, track yearly and quarterly invoices on a basis of paid or unpaid, print invoices and linked envelopes, create a customized list of billable items, and more.
What's New
Version 2.0b1:
There's no limit to the number of labor or items you can put on an invoice.
Labor items sort themselves by date, taking away the need to do this manually.
Reporting has been improved (and will be further improved before 'final' release)
There's a convenient screen called "Today" which allows you to enter all of your labor for a day into any or all unsent invoices.
There are three tax settings, each of which can be applied independently to different items if need be.
Clients can be tracked "On Account," which allows you to track total payments for the client without attaching the payments to individual invoices, if you choose.
More multi-user friendly.
The program is optimized for 1024 display.
Formatted to fit inside standard window envelopes.

It would seem that the author has released this application for free now. See his website for a license generator and to download. (link here is dead) I have no idea where the 2.0b1 comes from; the latest version is 1.5.
I've been using 1.4 for a long time, and I paid for some version of BBI quite a while ago. But due to disorganization and new computers, I lost my license information. So I'd been using it in demo mode. (wrote the author but no response) Nice to be able to take it out of demo mode for free now. Thanks, Jay.
I commenced to upgrade to 1.5, which has some improvements including the ability to use the scroll wheel. However, for some reason I can't get anything in the print dialog to respond. It's like the buttons are dead. So it's back to 1.4.
I think the author has washed his hands of this app -- he's concentrating on other things. Hopefully someone will figure out what's wrong here and there will be an update by someone sometime. (This is now released under the "Creative Commons GNU GPL license" so apparently people can make modifications, build on it, or whatever. (??) I have no idea how this all works.)
Anyway, the app minus the printing problem is great for my needs, labor and items, and produces a nice looking invoice. It's very customizable and is based on FileMaker. I like it; just wish I could upgrade to 1.5.
I've been using BlueBox for like 10 years. I have the print problem too. I'm going to just buy FileMaker and use his Standalone version and customize it.
The author gets kudos for making this do just what I need.: To bill for time and items and be able to include notes. The invoices also appear very professional when customized.
There are currently no troubleshooting comments. If you are experiencing a problem with this app, please post a comment.
