Macam is a package that enables you to use several USB webcams with Mac OS X. For a list of supported cameras, see this page.
What's New
Version 0.9.2 adds support for a number of webcams. In particluar the PS3 Eye, which requires USB2, but has a phenomenal picture. Many other webcams have been added, all the cameras from the gspca project should work (although no guarantees are provided). There is better support for Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard), as the NSLock console warning messages should be gone. The driver for the PAC207 has been improved in many ways, this chip is used in many cheap webcams.

Requirements
PPC / Intel, Mac OS X 10.3.9 or later.
Years ago, my girlfriend bought a Concord EyeQ webcam for her Windows machine so that she could do webcam chats with me on Yahoo Messenger while she was in college. I was on OS9 (actually, probably OS 8.6, at that time) and didn't have a cam, and the Concord never worked with my OS9 installation.
Some eight years later, I came across this camera in a box somewhere. Hadn't looked at it in years, but I figured what the hell. So I plugged it into my OSX 10.6-equipped MacBook, and no go... obviously, it's an elderly webcam and didn't support Mac in the first place, why would it support OSX? On a whim, I installed macam and instantaneously, it showed up in Yahoo Messenger, and using the macam application, I was able to use it to take pictures.
Still unsure if there's a way to get at the images stored on the internal memory (if there are any), but for a piece of free software that I installed on a whim, macam wildly exceeded my expectations.
Doesn't work with MS LifeCam NX-6000 :( Macam says the cam is not connected. I'm using the latest Leopard (10.5.6) on a MacPro. Applications like PhotoBooth and Skype are working ok by the OS, but the picture quality needs tuning badly. The Picture is much overbright and lacks color (the white balance is way off). Please developer try to make macam work with nx-6000.
Works great with a USB PS3 HD Eye on my G4 MDD 1.42, but only generates a black screen on my G5 quad ... Of course I wanted the cam for the G5. I also tried a Logitech cam on the G5 with same result and based on web searches (that I did after I bought the cam) Macam doesn't work on the G5 quad.
I bought a Trust WB-3400 webcam in order to use it with a Mac Mini G4.
I installed the driver, the IChatUSBCam software, but the cam is not recognized.
Only the microphone works.
Can someone help me?
The driver works fine with my 3-year old Creative Labs N10225 / PD1130 camera. Thanks for this! Color and resolution are more than good enough for my needs (recording lectures for college students). It doesn't make me look like a movie star, but I'm beginning to suspect the problem is me, not the technology. :-)
I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong but I followed the instructions and I can't get my Creative Labs N10225/PD1130 to work with iChat or Skype. It works fine with macam 0.8.9 but not with anything else. I'm running OS X Tiger 10.4.6. Can anyone help me pls?
Would be great, except the Logitech Quickcam Messenger gives a very pink, green, and odd-looking video on my intel 10.4.7 mac mini. Well, at least with the right settings I can have it black and white, which is better than nothing. Hopefully it will work with normal colors someday!
Help! Still got the same problem here.
The Eyetoy cam is detected, but the screen remains black. If I push the "Play" button, it says USB communication error... :(
